want to show you a special place."
    Dovie nodded.
Under tall pines, the air was cool and fragrant. Occasional patches of sunshine broke through the copious canopy to dazzle them with shafts of glittery light. A squirrel darted up a tree and then a rabbit hopped quickly out of their way. The forest had always been magical to Toby. He reached the last curve in the path that opened onto what he considered the most magnificent meadow, with the best view on his property—the property his father had gifted him with when he turned twenty-one—the property he would one day build a home on to raise his own family. He rounded the bend and halted Blue. He heard Dovie's gasp.
She exclaimed, "This is beautiful! It's like it materialized out of the pages of a fairytale."
Proudly, he said, "This meadow and the surrounding three hundred acres are mine. Someday I'm going to build my home here." He nudged Blue into the center of the grassy meadow strewn with blue forget-me-nots and yellow buttercups.
Dovie looked in every direction and then turned until her eyes met his. "You are a blessed man, Toby."
Toby wanted to kiss her so badly he ached. Instead, he dismounted and reached to lift her off his horse. When she was in his arms, rather than stand her on the ground, he began walking around the meadow and nodding toward different areas. "I think that spot would be perfect for a house. It has a view of the mountains but also a view of the meadow. And I can clear a road straight from the house to the highway which is only a mile away."
Dovie pointed. "And you could build your barn and corrals there."
"Exactly." For a few seconds they were silent and then he said, "Dovie, look at me, please."
She turned her head and stared questioningly at him.
For long moments Toby felt himself drowning in eyes as brown and rich as melted chocolate, but then he said what was on his mind. "Dovie, I want to kiss you."
Her eyes widened and golden specks in her irises mesmerized him. Her mouth dropped open and he could no longer contain his desire. He lowered his mouth to hers, barely touching it, and felt her sharp intake of breath. He waited a moment longer and then slowly increased the pressure. Her mouth was still parted and he wanted to explore its depths, but withheld himself. He had known from the first time he'd kissed Dovie that she was inexperienced. Slowly, very slowly, he moved his lips over hers. She placed her hand on his shoulder as if to push him away, but then encircled her arm tightly around his neck. He was encouraged by her reaction and deepened the kiss. She pulled herself closer to him.
His restraint finally broke and he touched her upper lip with his tongue. She moaned and moved her fingers to entangle his hair. His hat fell off, but he ignored it. As he slowly began exploring her mouth, Dovie copied his actions. She was a fast learner and Toby was so turned on he thought he might burst, but there was no way he was going to stop this kissing lesson. Their kisses went on and on until he laid her in the grass and knelt over her, never removing his mouth from hers.
Finally, he lifted his head and placed his forehead against hers. Breathing heavily, he said, "Dovie, you drive me crazy with desire. I want us to get to know each other and see where this might lead. Please say you'll let me take you to dinner next weekend. I know a great Italian restaurant."
Dovie's own breathing was coming in short bursts, which made Toby smile. She said in a breathless voice, "Toby, I'm not the kind of girl you date. As you just found out, I know nothing about kissing or…anything else."
He understood what she was saying and moved his mouth to her earlobe, teasing it. "I don't care what you do or don't know. I'm asking you out because I love your company. I think we could be great friends and maybe more."
When he gently bit her earlobe she moaned and he said, "Was that a yes?" He moved his mouth to her other earlobe and did the same.
    "Yes, Toby,
