they both climbed in. He started the ignition and pulled the truck out the lot. He was determined to ignore her. This was impossible because she was a vampire and he was trained to not trust them, to loathe them, to kill them.
    “Max.”
“What?” He looked over at her and couldn’t believe that even as a vampire she was still stunningly beautiful. Her lips, her cheeks, her tiny ears, her flawless nose and her wild untamed tightly curled Afro. Perfection.
“There was a burger place a few miles away off at the next highway exit.”
    “Yeah I saw that place.”
“Okay.” Scar turned to gaze out the passenger window.
They drove in silence. Max felt like they had done this before. He pulled into the lot of the burger place. He parked in the rear by the dumpster.
“Do you want me to wait in the car?”
“Are you going to sink your fangs into any customers?”
“Max please just stop already. You act like you don’t know me. You know me. You had feelings for me. I know I didn’t imagine it.”
    “No you didn’t.”
“So why are you acting like a fucking asshole?”
“Isn’t it obvious? Look at you.” He meant it as an insult but looking at her was part of his problem. He couldn’t stop looking at her.
“This vampirism was not my fault.”
    “It’s my fault.”
“No it’s fucking Walt’s fault. It’s Vampir’s fault for letting him come up with that stupid hunter’s hit list.”
“I made a promise to you.”
“A promise that was impossible for any man or monster to keep.” She added.
“Is that supposed to make it hurt any less?” Max’s bleak outlook took Scar by surprise.
“Who the hell are you? I don’t remember you being such a damn crybaby. Don’t you think I feel terrible? My parents are dead because of me. I am the one that broke up with Walt. He was turned and he killed my parents. That is all my fault. You have absolutely no responsibly in this at all. You’re trying to blame yourself is a fucking insult. Fuck you, fuck you. Fuck. You. Fox.”
“Okay chill with the fuck yous.”
“I swear a lot now that I’m a vamp. I don’t know why. This shit just flies out my mouth.”
“Really I didn’t notice.” Max rolled his eyes.
    “This life is tough.”
    “Yeah whatever. I was wondering.”
“You had a thought? Oh call CNN.” Scar smarted.
“Funny. How did you have sex with me, without biting me or killing me? Blood lust is a whore’s slutty bitch.”
“You really want to know the truth?”
    Max shrugged. “Yeah of course.”
“I never had an urge to kill you. I did have an urge to bite you, drink you. Honestly I did. When my fangs came out I just turned away from you.”
    “Okay so what’s that mean?”
“I don’t know what it means. It was the first time I tried it.”
“Okay right.” Max wasn’t sure he believed her. She gave some guy a good time since she turned. Sure he hadn’t been with anybody since her but he didn’t believe she didn’t share her vamp cookies with someone vampire or human.
“Do you want me to be honest?”
“Yes yes. I said that already. The truth.”
“When I saw you snooping in that house I was so happy. Happy the sun had gone down first but then happy you were there. I didn’t want to leave you so I clocked you one and brought you to that barn. I missed you. I was lonely. You remind me of that happy time. A time I will never get back. Once we were alone in the barn I started to get horny so I wanted to see if you were repulsed by me. You got hard and I couldn’t resist feeling you inside me one last time. I didn’t know how it would feel or what I would do. I hoped I still cared enough about you that I wouldn’t rip your throat out, drain you dry or turn you into a vamp.”
“That was keeping it to real.” Max wasn’t sure what to do with the truth. “You didn’t do any of those things.”
“I don’t think I could have hurt you.”
    “Why?”
    “You know why?”
    “Yeah I know why?”
    They both
