telling mom he was throwing her over for the
newest Blair bride.
I relaxed once I realized he wasn't going to
just blurt shit out at the table, but I still had to tell her something. What,
I still wasn't sure, but when he gave my dad, Jules and I a look I knew
playtime was over.
    "We men are going out
back for a cigar Natalia." Dad bent to kiss mom and rub her shoulder
before leaving the room. I knew he’d told her what was going on, possibly all
of it. I don't know how he could, for me, the thought of worrying cheeks with
this shit left a bad taste in my mouth. I guess I had a different way of
thinking. Dad believed that sharing everything with your mate went a long way
to keeping the peace. I believe that the man should handle the bullshit and let
the woman just enjoy the good, antiquated, yes. Who gives a fuck?
How exactly was she going to
handle hearing this shit? What was she going to do with the info? See what I
mean, all this will do is make her scared, worried and miserable. If I just
took care of it and told her after the fact when there was nothing left to
worry about wouldn't that be better? Both dad and Jules seemed to think that
was warped thinking, I'm still not sure.
    Of course dad and uncle
Marcus lit up, both Jules and I declined I just wanted to get shit started. The
sooner we got the planning stage done the sooner we could get to the doing
stage. I wanted this shit over and done with as soon as possible.
Vicki has been settling in to her new life here
with my family and I. Her schoolwork hasn't suffered any that I could see and
she was getting back to her old self again. We hadn't had an argument since she
moved in which should be a good thing, but I didn't like it. It was as if she
was afraid to say or do the wrong thing and I couldn't figure out if that's
because she was afraid she would be asked to leave, or if it was remnants from
my caveman antics when she kissed that asshole. Either way I was going to have
to have a talk with her about that shit. I don't want her afraid of anything, I
know I'd threatened to leave her and had in essence left her for a short time
but that shit right there had taught me that I couldn't live without her ass so
there was no way I was ever leaving her again.
    "We've got a problem
here boys." Uncle Marcus's voice brought me back to the matter at hand. We
all turned to look at him expectantly.
"I didn't just arrive, I've been here for
a few days. After what you told me Thaddeus I had to do some recon, couldn't go
in blind.
Now here's what I've pieced together so far.
This game that the men are playing goes beyond this place, it's almost like a
fucking cult. In the last few days I've been able to gather names and locations
but I'm afraid it's bigger than we thought. I have a lot of work to do in the
next few days, but before we get into that." At this point he turned to
Jules and clasped his shoulder.
    "How serious are you
about that little lady in there son?" Julius got a confused look on his face,
as did dad and I. What the hell was he talking about? Did he mistakenly think
it was Julius's girl he was here for? I looked at dad who just shrugged his
shoulders.
    "I don't understand the
question." Jules was still wearing a look of bafflement.
Uncle Marcus reached inside his jacket and
pulled out a Manila envelope. Dropping it on the table he opened it and pulled
out some stills. There were surveillance shots of Vicki and Petra at different
times throughout the day. From them leaving home, some of them on their lunch
break outside on school grounds and then the return home. I didn't quite
understand why he needed those but what the hell. Maybe he was just really
thorough. He even had their detail in some of the shots at least it showed the
guy was on the job.
It was the last ten pictures
that shed some light on the question though. In them Melanie could be seen
meeting with Kenneth Baldwin.
"What the fuck?" My first intention
was to go into the house and get Vicki away
