anymore?’ Mac looked up from the file he’d been reading.
Jake checked to make sure no one else was listening and then closed the door to Mac’s office and rounded his desk.
‘There’s something you need to see’ he told him, handing him the disk.
Raising an eyebrow at Jake’s cryptic mood he took the disc and loaded it up on his laptop.
    ‘What is this?’
‘The security footage from the Bailey’s store.’
Mac turned back to the screen and watched intently.
    ‘What the hell?’
He flicked it back and watched it again.
    ‘Shit,’ he swore.
‘I know,’ Jake shook his head as Mac flicked the footage back and watched it once again.
His eyes narrowed and he unconsciously leaned closer to the screen as he studied the tall dark figure wearing a strange dark hat standing in front of Jonathan Bailey. Some kind of visual disturbance ran across the screen obscuring the stranger’s face but they both saw, clear as day, as he reached into Jonathan Bailey’s chest and yanked out what looked to be a ball of light about the size of a tennis ball.
    ‘What the hell is it?’
‘I haven’t a clue,’ Jake shook his head.
    ‘Has anyone else seen this?’
‘Just you and me,’ he replied.
‘Jesus,’ he scrubbed his hand over his face in frustration. ‘I thought all the creatures got pulled back in when we closed the gateway.’
‘Maybe they did, maybe this is something different.’
    Mac sighed deeply.
‘Do you remember the days when all we had to worry about was a serial killer on the loose.’
    ‘Simpler times,’ Jake nodded.
‘I have to admit I don’t even know where to start with this,’ Mac stood and paced his office. ‘Without Olivia and Theo or even, although I hate to admit it, Charles I wouldn’t know how to even begin to figure out what that thing is.’
‘Is there no way to contact Charles at all?’ Jake asked.
‘No,’ Mac scowled, ‘we’re not exactly best friends.’
    ‘How about Danae?’
‘We could try leaving a message on her cell because I’m willing to bet money that she’s with Charles and Davis.’ He pulled open his desk drawer and retrieved his weapon, holstering it at his side as he picked up his jacket and shrugged it on. ‘Let’s go and see your sister and find out if Mr Bailey has regained consciousness yet.’
Jake nodded and followed him from the room.

Louisa looked up tiredly from the chart she was furiously scribbling in. Her brother strode confidently through the department with Mac following behind him looking equally as serious.
    ‘Hey,’ she greeted them both.
‘Louisa,’ Mac nodded, ‘we’re here for an update on Mr Bailey. Is he awake yet?’
‘No,’ she sighed, ‘I don’t know if he is going to wake up.’
‘Have you found out what’s wrong with him yet?’ Jake asked.
    Louisa shook her head.
‘I hate to admit it but I just don’t have a clue. His test results keep coming back clean, we’ve done bloods, scans and CT’s, in fact nearly every test we can think of but we just can’t find a cause for the coma.’
‘Damn it,’ Mac muttered, ‘I was hoping we’d be able to speak with him. Is there nothing you can give him to bring him around?’
‘Sorry Mac, right now we don’t even understand why he’s unconscious.’
Her eyes narrowed suspiciously as she saw the look that passed between her brother and the Captain.
    ‘You know something don’t you?’
‘Is there somewhere private we can talk?’ Mac asked quietly.
‘Sure’ she nodded, leading them into a small private lounge nearby.
‘Okay what’s going on?’ Louisa asked the minute the door was closed.
‘I retrieved the security footage from the Bailey’s store earlier today’ Jake told her. ‘When we watched it back it seems Mr Bailey wasn’t alone when he collapsed.’
‘Okay,’ she replied in confusion, ‘so what’s that got to do with him being ill? Because I’m telling you now, he has no evidence of injuries at all, especially one that
