Cora: Bride of South Dakota (American Mail-Order Bride 40)
you feel?”

Before Cora could answer, friends and family filed from the building and joined them. Men shook John’s hand and kissed Cora’s cheek while congratulating them. Woman hugged and kissed them both.

For the next few hours there was dancing on the makeshift wooden dance floor some of the men had set up. The band consisted of a flute, ukulele and violin. Songs such as Turkey in the Straw and Lovely Molly were danced to enthusiastically. Cora and John were lost in each other as they danced their first waltz as husband and wife.

Food consisted of tender beef, freshly caught fish, platters of fresh vegetables, jugs of gravy, cornbread and apple pie. While the women drank fruit punch, the men imbibed whiskey, rum or beer. Some partook of all three and when they became rowdy, women apologized and dragged them off home.

As the afternoon cooled and rain threatened, John and Cora said their farewells. John’s arm circled her waist and he assisted her into the carriage for the short drive to the hotel. Cora’s nerves kicked in as they sat side by side holding hands.

“You never did answer my question.” John said.

Cora thought about what he’d asked her earlier. “I feel wonderful, John. Thank you for giving me the best day of my life. I’ll remember it for as long as I live.”

“Sweetheart, I aim to make every day from now on, the best day of your life.” He kissed her tenderly. His groin stirred.

The carriage came to a stop at the front of the hotel. A porter opened the door and John jumped out. Cora stood poised in the doorway. He reached up and circled her waist with his hands. She felt like she was floating down to the ground. He hurried her inside and upstairs to her room. She noted John’s bags had been moved in during the day. It was now their room. He closed and locked the door before turning to face his wife.

“While you look more beautiful than any woman I’ve ever seen, the time has come for me to discover what is hidden under your petticoats.” He opened his arms and she dashed into them.

“It’s time for you to become a woman, my love.” His lips lowered to hers and Cora was lost.

The day had been beyond her wildest dreams but she knew, the night would be out of this world.

A hand shook her shoulder. John’s voice was husky and thick when he spoke. Her eyes snapped open. He sat next to her on the bed, his muscular chest, bare. She reached up, her fingers traced the ridges of his abdomen and she delighted in his shivers.

He placed his hand over hers. “If you keep that up, sweetheart, we won’t get out of this room. Heck, we won’t get out of this bed, today. The men have already left for the ranch and we need to leave too.” He leaned forward and kissed her. A gentle, sensual kiss, but every nerve end tingled.

Cora sighed and pushed back the blankets. She gasped, she was as naked as a new born babe. Memories from the previous night flooded back. When she dared to lift her eyes to her husband’s, she couldn’t miss the smoldering, desperate hunger in his eyes.

John groaned as his manhood reacted to her nakedness. “Please Cora,” he begged. “Get dressed sweetheart. We really do need to get home.”

She giggled and bounced from the bed. John followed the sway of her hips and naked behind as she sashayed to the wash basin.

He growled with want. Before he dragged her back into the bed, he turned away and finished dressing. His groin ached. “You’ll have to wait until tonight,” he chastised himself. It was going to be a very long day. How was he supposed to keep his mind on his work knowing Cora would be alone in their home?

The sun was shining and a gentle breeze blew as the horses clip clopped through the beautiful countryside. The road was obviously well travelled, it was extremely bumpy in places. Cora was thrown against John’s shoulder so often when the wagon hit ruts, he
