says.
“You’re fucking crazy!” she shouts at me.
“Thank you. You’re pretty badass yourself. Now, we’re going to have a little chat, or you’re going to spend the night in jail. Which is it?”
Dalia huffs, trying to get part of her black wig out of her face. “You know I can’t go to jail again.”
“Exactly, so you better start talking.”
“Whatever, you know who I get my shit from.”
    She’s referring to her crack.
“Yeah, but I don’t know where he is,” I say.
    “I don’t, either.”
    “I call bullshit.”
“All I know is he comes through here for me between four and six some evenings. So please, get the hell out of here before he sees you questioning me.”
She tries to lean over. “Damn, bitch, you tore my hose.”
    “Put it on my tab.”
Reggie removes the handcuffs from her wrists.
“You’ve been a big help. Now, put those away,” he says with little enthusiasm as he points to her chest.
He’s providing me much entertainment today. Next, I get to face Adrian, and secretly, I can’t wait.

Chapter Thirteen
    Adrian

I pace the floor of my office with a hand across the nape of my neck. This tension is too much. I massage the muscles, but it doesn’t help.
I ended a call with Ms. D’Angelo only five minutes ago. I’m ready to have that bitch out of my life. She wouldn’t tell me shit. I guess Xavier is the only one in the know, and he’s sworn to secrecy until the bust is over.
Glancing to my watch again, I see it’s six p.m. The deal doesn’t happen until eleven. This wait is going to kill me. I need a fucking release. My phone rings, and I see it’s Aggie.
“Agatha, this isn’t a good time.”
    “Hello to you, too.”
“I’m sorry, but there’s a lot going on this evening.”
    “Like what?”
“Will you be up early tomorrow? I can talk to you then.”
“Ma is sick, Adrian. I mean really sick. The doctor was here, and he doesn’t believe she has much time left.”
    “How long?”
“A week or two … at best.”
“Shit, Aggie, I’m sorry. I have some news, too, but I’m not at liberty to discuss it yet. Can you call me tomorrow?”
    “What’s happening, Adrian?”
“Sis, I seriously can’t tell you. I will then.”
She sighs. “OK, fine. I’m calling early.”
“Take care, and … I love you. Give Ma a hug for me.”
“I love you, too, and I will. Adrian, whatever you’re into, be careful.”
My phone beeps, signaling another call, so I hang up.
    “Hello,” I say sharply.
“I’m in the lobby down the hall.” It’s Victoria, and just the sound of her voice eases my tension.
“Hand your phone to the assistant.” She does, and I tell him to send her back to my office alone. I go to the door and wait for her.
A peck on my cheek is all I get from her before I shut the door behind us. Grabbing her wrist, I swing her back around. Her chest hits mine, and I shelter her in my arms. “Where do you think you’re going?”
    “I’m here, aren’t I?”
    “Drop the attitude.”
    “Make me.”

Victoria

Grabbing me by the biceps, Adrian crushes my lips with his. Intensity and urgency bleeds into me as he groans into my mouth. The heat of his breath spreads through me, too, and I’m soon falling forward, clutching the front of his shirt as I deepen our kiss.
“No,” he says firmly, pushing me outward until I’m at arm’s length. I’m panting, desperate to be touched by him. I need him to give me something–anything. God, please.
“Adrian.” I’m unabashed in my whimper and effort to lean into him, imploring him to touch me again. “Punish me.”
“So, you want me to punish you?”
    “Most definitely.”
“Why are you here? Are we talking now?”
He completely releases me, so I scrunch my brow.
“I’m sorry. I was pissed at you.”
“And I had apologized, but it wasn’t good enough. So, your pleading isn’t good enough. Maybe if you beg a little, I’ll oblige.”
    “You’re being an
