out the room.
Denise sighed. âLook, man, I know you donât like Rhonda. But she is good to me, and I am going to keep her around.â
âBruh, have you lost your damn mind? Man, if that girl is good, then I am a damn saint,â Cooley responded. She snatched her outfit for the day out of the closet. âI know you wanna get over Lena and all, but, shit, you can do better than her!â Cooley realized how upset she was. She knew her friend was headed for trouble.
âLook, I donât bother you about the bitches you have in and out of here, so please do not get on my one girl that I have over,â Denise replied, feeling herself getting angry. âAnd I would appreciate it if the Lena shit could be dropped, OK!â She sat down on Cooleyâs bed and put her head down.
Cooley turned around and looked at Denise. She began to smile.
âYou fucked Lena!â Cooley yelled.
Denise jumped up and put her hand over Cooleyâs mouth. âHey, quiet. Rhonda may hear you,â Denise whispered while she checked to see if Rhonda was standing near the door. âNo, I didnât fuck Lena. We just kissed... a lot.â
Cooley fell on her bed laughing. âDamn, man. When, where, and how the fuck was it?â
Denise pulled up Cooleyâs chair. âI told you we didnât fuck. We just made out a lot. Man, last night, when I went over there. She had this great meal cooked and a masseuse. We were watching Love Jones, and next thing I know, I was on top of her, kissing her.â Denise smiled when the thought of Lenaâs legs trembling while she was kissing her entered her head.
âFor real? Gotdamn, Love Jones , I swear it works ev-erytime.â Cooleyâs eyes lit up. âMan, I am so damn proud of you, dog. Itâs only a matter of time before you get the pussy.â Cooley gave Denise daps. âI bet sheâs saying âBrandon who?â right about now.â Cooley laughed.
Denise sat back in her chair. âI doubt it. She may be crying again. After the vase broke, she got a quick reality check and realized that she fucked up. She ran into the bathroom crying. I had to put her in the bed. I hope she is OK. I gotta have Carmen call and check on her.â
âOh, damn. So, where does that leave you all now?â Cooley asked Denise.
âFriends. I thought something was going to happen, but itâs just over. It was over before we had a chance to begin. Now, I have Rhonda, and I gotta move on.â
Cooley sighed when Denise said Rhondaâs name.
âMove on, yes. With that bitch? Hell no! Man, you can do so much better. I swear I get bad-ass vibes from her. I think sheâs up to something. You need to watch her sneaky ass.â
âMan, sheâs harmless. You and Carmen are just going to have to get over this feud yâall have with her. Iâm comfortable with her, so Iâm going to keep her around.â Denise got up and headed to the door.
âI hear you, dude, but I am telling you, sleep with one eye open.â Cooley stood up as Denise walked out the door. She knew Denise wasnât going to listen, so she was going to have to look out for her friend.

Carmen stared at Nic as she brushed her hair. Nic turned around and looked at her. âWhy the hell are you staring at me?â

âWhatever, girl. Every day I realize more and more itâs something seriously wrong with you.â Nic smiled.
âWhatever, you like it.â
âLove it.â Nic smiled as she walked to the door. âLet me go get one of those newspapers before they run out.â She walked out and gently shut the door behind her.
Carmen sat on her bed. She smiled to herself thinking about how lucky she was. Nic was one of the most desired women in the Memphis life and she was with her.
Nicâs cell phone began to go off. Carmen pushed a
