“You are impossible, you know that?” He didn’t flinch, only continued to wait for the name. “His name is R.J.”
He leaned in and placed his hands flat against the countertop. He was such an overpowering ass at times. “R.J.? You wanna give me more than that, Gabby?”
“His name wasn’t R.J. He just wanted her to call him that,” Brook said.
I glared at her, and she wrinkled her nose. “One morning you might wake up with your head shaved if you don’t find something else to do besides run your mouth.”
“Gabby,” Josh practically growled this time, and it made me jump in surprise.
“Fine, his name is Roman Kovalsky,” I said a little louder than I had intended, but I was so over this shit.
The anger left Josh’s face immediately as his skin broke out in a light layer of sweat and his eyes widened as they shifted toward the living room. There, the three other men and Audrey were staring back at me with matching expressions.
Greyson walked toward us, his eyes locked on mine. “What did you just say?” he asked as he stepped up next to Josh.
My stomach tightened. Something told me this name meant something to all of them.
“My client, the one I talked to you about on the phone, Josh wanted to know his name,” I replied.
“Did you say his name was Roman?” Greyson was beginning to scare me.
Josh snapped out of whatever crazy trance he was in and leaned in, placing his hands on my shoulders. “Baby, I need you to confirm that you said Roman Kovalsky.”
I nodded. “What in the hell is going on?” I was getting irritated at being kept in the dark.
Growling, Josh spun around and gripped his hair in his fist, pulling at the ends. Greyson tried to gain some control of the situation by placing his hand on his shoulder, but Josh grew angrier. “He was that fucking close, Grey. He was within inches of her.” Panic rushed through me as Josh placed his hands against the wall next to the refrigerator and hung his head. “Fuck!”
“Josh, you’re scaring me. Please, will someone tell me what in the hell is going on?” I stood from the barstool and took a step toward him as he turned around to face me. He pulled me into his arms and held me tightly.
“Grey, get me a sketch artist. We finally have a face to go with the name,” Josh said through gritted teeth.
In that moment I realized the man who had tried to insinuate himself into my life could have had been the one to end it. The thought sickened me.
“Baby, Roman Kovalsky is the man we’ve all been after. He’s the man responsible for a lot of death and despair,” Josh whispered, and my knees grew weak, but he held me up. “I’ve got you, sweetheart. I promise to keep you safe.”

    Chapter 19

    Josh

I paced the living room as Gabby gave detail after detail of the man who had terrorized so many in this city. A man who worked his way into our lives and had gotten entirely too close to the woman I love. That made me sick to my stomach. I knew the things he was capable of, the things he’d done to innocent women and children.
We had spent months trying to find this man when he was right under our noses terrorizing Gabby. She may not look at it that way, but I knew how he worked, and terrorizing her was exactly what he was doing.
Trevor called in a guy he knew to sketch for us. The waiting was killing me, but sitting on the couch bouncing around and popping my knuckles was only making Gabby nervous. So I paced the room instead. It didn’t stop the death glares Brook and Audrey kept shooting me, but fuck, I felt like I was losing my mind waiting.
“You need a breather, man.” I looked up at Mike as he leaned against the doorframe. “I know all this is pretty fucked up, but you need to take it down a notch.”
My body hummed with a mixture of anger and fear as I stepped closer to him and tried to keep my voice down. “He was alone with her. Roman could have taken her at any
