employee greeted him with hugs and Nuke could hear the worker expressing condolences about Kordell’s wife.
Nuke had seen people fake tears and grief before, but Kordell wasn’t one of them. He was truly upset. He didn’t stay long; he was in and out in less than ten minutes. Nuke followed him outside and watched him get into a car. Inside the vehicle was a pretty blonde girl, eighteen at the most. She was the stepdaughter and for someone whose mother had just been murdered, she looked bored, not like she was grieving.
In his hours of observation of Indigo, he’d noticed that the store did a lot of business for a mall kiosk that sold handmade jewelry and purses. The merchandise was cheap and he saw repeat customers, which was odd enough. Indigo sold more purses than jewelry, from what he had seen, and these weren’t nice leather purses. They were poorly made bags out of cheap fabric.  To Nuke, it was obvious that Indigo was selling drugs right inside the mall. It was also obvious that Nick Kordell was completely oblivious to it, too.
The car lot was nothing special. They had some decent vehicles, one of which he test drove with a sincere interest in bringing Jasmine back to look at it. It was an average car lot that did an average amount of business. Nothing about Holden and Nick Kordell was making sense. Nick Kordell didn’t seem like the kind of man who sold drugs or killed people. He also didn’t seem like the kind of man who would hire someone to do the dirty deed.
Nuke phoned Medic and had him move Holden to a motel. This got Holden away from the club. Whatever he was up to, Nuke didn’t want it blowing back on his club brothers. He still wasn’t sure what that was, but he was going to find out. He needed more information before he made a move for or against Holden.
The rain started to pour down again. The sky was trying to tell Nuke to go home, but he didn’t listen to the obvious, more dominant voices in his head. He climbed into his truck and headed to Kordell’s house. The downpour made it difficult to see the streets, but luckily, the GPS got him to his destination.
He figured that Kordell was a man who was getting played by Holden. Holden was probably acting like a wannabe drug dealer and using Kordell’s kiosk to move the merchandise while he banged his wife. Odds were, Holden actually owed his supplier money and whatever amount he’d stolen from Kordell wasn’t enough. So the supplier took a few shots at him. Gracie may have been in on it, but Nuke seriously doubted it. His brother didn’t have money and Gracie Kordell liked the finer things in life. She wouldn’t have left Nick Kordell for his brother. Gracie was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hell, for all he knew, Holden might not have been screwing Gracie at all and made that part up to make his story sound more believable.
Before Nuke confronted Holden, he needed to be positive about his theory that Kordell was innocent in Holden’s scheme. He’d told Holden that he was going to Kordell’s house to speak with him. In reality, he was going to search his house just to make sure that Kordell was as legit as he appeared to be.
He put on a pair of gloves and waited until just after three a.m. when Kordell’s’ house was quiet. Then he walked around to the back of the house and let himself in. Immediately, there was a familiar smell in the air and it hit him like a ton of bricks. It was an odor that he knew up close and in person. The aroma was so overwhelming that Nuke took a step back: death.
Kordell was lying on the living room floor, covered in blood. There were stab wounds to his chest and a one-inch slit across his throat. First, his wife had been murdered, and now, Nick Kordell had joined her in a gruesome end.
Nuke backed up, making sure that he didn’t touch anything in the house, gloves or not. Movement caught his eye and he turned to look toward the stairs as someone switched a light on.
    The stepdaughter that
