“It’s better for my broken limbs, but it doesn’t look as fun!”
They spent the next couple of hours with him teaching her how to ski.  They laughed and had fun.  She fell multiple times and ate snow more than she cared to admit.  When they were finished, she wiped the snow from her face.  “I want hot chocolate now,” she said with a laugh.
“ Holo, ski lodge with hot chocolate please.”  The setting changed to a rustic looking room with a roaring fire.  There were two hot chocolates on a coffee table in front of a long couch.
“I like your holodeck!” Jayn said as she took her seat on the couch.  She picked up on of the hot chocolates, and drank it down.  “I could live in this room and never leave.”
“I have spent more time in holodecks than any other man alive, because I test out every possibility, and I promise you, it’s not a place you want to stay forever.  It’s lonely after a while.  Sure, you can make companions appear, but eventually, you need real people.”
“But we’re in here together.  We could stay here.”
“The first holodeck didn’t have a function for two.  That’s what’s so good about this one.”
She smiled, leaning her head against his shoulder.  “I’m glad you made this one for two.”
They finished their chocolate, and he walked her back to Finn’s house, kissing her as he left her.  Her cheeks were still flushed with the cold, and her eyes danced with the fun they’d had.  “I want to go sailing tomorrow!”
Dimitri shook his head.  “Maybe on Tuesday.  I have to work tomorrow.  I have a meeting to promote the new holodeck.”
She sighed.  “That’s fine.”  She had no idea what she’d do without the holodeck and Dimitri to entertain her.  She knew Finn was working, and Gus seemed to lock himself in his lab every day.  She certainly wasn’t going to seek out Porter.  There was no telling what he’d do.  “I need a puppy,” she said dejectedly.  She’d read about dogs and heard about them, but there were so few left in the world, she knew there was really no chance she could have one.  It would make her happy, though.
She hurried into the house and went into the kitchen.  “Hi, Bot.”
Bot turned to her.  “Do you need something, Miss Jayn?”
“Could I have a snack before dinner?”
“Yes, of course.  What would you like?  A grilled cheese sandwich?  Shrimp cocktail?  Chips and queso?”
Jayn shrugged.  “Surprise me.”   She sat down at the table and waited as Bot brought her a shrimp cocktail.  “Thank you, Bot.”  She took her first bite of the shrimp with the tangy sauce and smiled.  “This is delicious.”
After she finished her snack, Jayn wandered through the house wondering what she should do.  She had two hours before dinner and nothing to occupy herself with.   She walked into a room at the end of the hall, one that Finn had said would be hers for crafts, and widened her eyes in amazement.  The paints she’d asked for were there, as well as skeins of yarn in every color and crochet hooks.  How had he known she enjoyed crocheting?
Jayn hurried to the yarn and picked out a soft white and light pink.  She’d make a baby afghan.  With the way the men were going, if she wasn’t pregnant in the first month, she would be surprised.
She took a seat at the glider chair, and pushed the button on the side.  She felt the seat of the chair heat up and a massaging action began.  After her hours skiing, the massage felt very good to her.
She’d made a good start on the afghan when she noticed by the wall clock that it was dinner time.  She put her work away on a shelf that was part of the craft room.  She smiled as she closed the door behind her, happy to have something to do.

Chapter Nine

Jayn rushed into the dining room for dinner, seeing that Finn was waiting for her there.  “I’m sorry I’m late.  I got caught up in my craft room.”  She hurried to him and
