for over an hour. I was hella mad because I had ordered all my books online except two because they were workbooks that were not carried online. So unfortunately, I was stuck in this store with a million other people and I had a meeting with my uncle’s teams in less than an hour. I shot a text to Tamia and told her that I would be about 15 minutes late and to just make sure everyone was there by the time I showed up.
Since Uncle Ken had gone down, he had literally left Tamia and me in charge of all of his personal affairs. We had to meet up with both crews weekly just to make sure that everybody was on the same page, there wasn’t any funny shit going on and that, most importantly, the money was on point. They were still awaiting trial but had been sitting for the past six months. How I got myself back into this mess was beyond me. But here I was, back in the streets and my face was known to be seen at least twice a week on the east and west side.
After finally getting the hell off campus, I rushed to the meeting spot. B had a few cousins that were founders of a motorcycle club so we were able to use their clubhouse on Friday afternoons to hold our meetings with no interruptions. Everything had changed from how it was when the original Gas Squad was running things, but the money was coming in just as much and possibly even more. Oh, what a difference a year made.
My job was to make sure that all the cop money was straight at the end of the week, that my uncle’s lawyers and bills were paid and that a certain amount of money was placed into his offshore accounts on time. Tamia’s job was to make sure that all the drops were handled and that the pickup from each of our plugs were made and drop offs were distributed amongst the crews on time. Jamiya was more hands on. She wasn’t leadership material like Tamia so Uncle Ken didn’t much hand her any responsibility. For the most part, she was the one that was always ready when it was time to put in work. Her team was cold and they were trigger happy and wild as fuck. Gas Squad had put in work but the crew Jamiya ran with on the west side made us look like amateurs when it was fonk time. On more than one occasion, I’d had to get on her helmet about being so wild and drawing attention to us. With her parents and brother under investigation, I needed them to move smarter and stop making so much noise in the streets.
I hopped out my Masi and walked up to the door to the clubhouse; I knocked and waited to be let inside. I glanced at my phone and saw that I had three missed calls from Chris. I would call him back once the meeting was over. His ass could wait. I had yet to tell Chris about my involvement in the streets, past or present, and honestly, I didn’t even know how. My rational side said to just tell him before he found out elsewhere and then my rebellious side said if he don’t ask, then don’t tell. I knew he knew something was up. We hadn’t been spending much time together and I had been running around non-stop for weeks. Shit, I had just installed a safe into my closet at home and as I was having Greg put it in the other day, Chris showed up unexpectedly. I had to make up a lie that the shower head in my bathroom had broken to explain why Greg had come over and was covered in plaster. It was hard trying to keep secrets from my nigga but I just wasn’t ready to let him in on every part of my life.
B had come and let me in and I gave him a quick hug as I stepped inside the building. I walked up the stairs and into the meeting room. “Sup, y’all?” I addressed the room. Soon as I took my seat, I began to roll up. “Aite, y’all. Let’s get this meeting started so we can go on about our business,” I said, looking around the room at the twenty something people that occupied the seats.
Tamia, Jamiya, Lexis, Greg and B were to my right along with Tae, this broad named Jessie that was a part of the east side crew as well as Corey, Mike and Timmy and then
