time to tell him about the ghosts. I was glad that I hadn’t mentioned the cat and the tarot cards or the Ouija board.
â€œThe poor guy doesn’t know what to think,” Charlotte piped up behind me.
â€œOkay. I’ll see you soon.” He flashed his dazzling smile and walked out the door.
â€œThat was an awkward exchange,” Charlotte said. “You will have to tell him about the cat, and you’ll have to tell him about us.” She pointed at Alice.
â€œI can’t tell him about any of that. No way. He’ll think I’m crazy.”
â€œYou’d be surprised,” Heather said. “People are a lot more accepting of the supernatural than you’d think.”
â€œMaybe someday he’ll find out, just not right now.” I straightened the jewelry in the display case.
Charlotte shrugged. “You’ll have to tell him sooner or later.”
    â€œI pick later,” I said.
â€œI think you should talk to the lawyer again,” Alice said.
    â€œWhat for?” I asked.
â€œHe probably has more information about the case.”
I shut the display case. “I think the only info he has is from Preston.”
â€œWell, Preston probably told him more than he would the police or you.”
I picked up a pile of colorful silk scarves and refolded them. “His lawyer wouldn’t share any of that info. It’s confidential.”
â€œI suppose you do have a point.”
We stood in silence as we contemplated what to do next. There had to be a clue that I was missing. I needed to speak with Jessica about the text messages.
Heather must have read my mind. “You should speak with Jessica about the text messages.” Maybe she really was psychic, after all.
â€œThat’s exactly what I was thinking.”
â€œGreat minds think alike,” she said.
â€œWell, what are you all waiting for? Let’s go talk to Jessica.” Charlotte motioned toward the door.
â€œNot so fast,” I said. “She’s a star. I don’t think we can just walk up and talk to her. She’ll think I’m a crazy fan.”
â€œYou spoke with her once, right?” Heather asked. “You could tell her you need to speak with her about the costumes.”
Heather might be onto something. That might actually work.
â€œI just hope we’re not way off base with this,” I said.
Heather adjusted her bag’s strap on her shoulder. “So what if we are? She wouldn’t know why we are talking with her. The plan is just to be casual.”
I put the scarves back under the counter. “I suppose you’re right. I just hope it works.”
Heather opened the door, jangling the bell. “Oh, of course it will work. What could possibly go wrong?”
Plenty could go wrong. I was willing to give it a try though. I didn’t have any other ideas.

The Gazette reported that the film’s producers had decided to continue shooting scenes that didn’t involve Nicole. So Heather and I devised a plan to go back to the plantation and speak with Jessica Duncan about her text messages to Nicole. I parked the Buick in the lot, and we made our way across the beautiful lawn toward the actors’ trailers.
â€œI hope we don’t run into Vera Lemon,” I said.
â€œWe’ll just have to be firm with her,” Heather said.
I stepped over a thick electrical cable. “Yes, I suppose that’s the only thing to do.”
â€œShe can’t say we’re on her property now and we’ll just stay away from the edges.”
Heather and I reached the area with the trailers. Now we had to find out which one was Jessica’s. The only way I’d gotten on set was because I’d kept the pass they’d
