“Anyone else caught?”
“The club’s fine,” he grumbled.
Edmond went on the other bike
that rounded the corner. I couldn’t tell which brother it was from here. I
hopped on behind Deviant. His body was much more muscular than mine. I held his
hips as the hover tech kicked in and we moved off the ground. We drove away,
but I knew I would never see my home again.
Chapter Two
Outlaw paced in front of me. We
were in a construction area, away from the clubhouse. I was leaning on
Deviant’s bike, which made the big guy frown. “The MC is now under more
scrutiny from the government.” He stopped in front of me. “All
because you couldn’t keep your goddamn dick in your pants!”
“I know that, ” I yelled.
“We can’t fuck up like this,
Romeo.”
What did he want me to say? I
knew he was right. Our plan to take down the government had to be rushed
because our member Liam, Outlaw’s lover, was currently doing a fifteen-year
prison sentence on Earth for the club. My fuck up just set us back months. We
were already on the government’s watch list for the auction house bombing and
the breeding house bombing. Now, one member is confirmed gay. This just put more heat on my brothers. I hung my head in
shame.
Outlaw kicked the dirt and
started pacing again.
“The Underground MC is going to
take you both in. You do exactly as they fucking say. Do you understand me?”
I nodded.
Edmond was standing off to the
side. His eyes were wide. Some luck he had. He went from wanting to join the
Outlaw MC to being forced to the ass end of Mars to survive.
“Romeo?” Outlaw
practically growled my name.
“Yes. I understand.”
Outlaw let out a breath and
rubbed a hand over his face. He looked so damn tired. There were bags under his
eyes and his dark hair had grown out longer. His skin was starting to go pale
because all he did was sit in the clubhouse and try to find a way to get his
lover home.
“I’m sorry, Outlaw .”
He looked up at me. Those narrow
brown eyes softened. “I know you are.” He sighed. Then Outlaw pulled me in for
a hug. “I know you’re sorry, brother.” He pulled away. “Underground will be
here soon. Stay out of sight.”
I nodded. The Underground MC was
started by a man named Justice. Apparently,
he knew Outlaw well. When we started this clandestine fight against the
governments tyranny, Justice had created his own MC. It was mainly dark-skinned men who either fought for their
freedom or were broken out of the auction house to join the cause. I didn’t
know too much about him and only saw him a few times from far away. Looks like
I was going to get to know him a lot better. Since I couldn’t go home, I was stuck living on the outskirts of
the city. Fuck that, not even the city. The Underground MC lived in tunnels and
caves under Mars’ surface, usually in the areas that were yet to be colonized.
It’s how they stayed off the government’s radar. Because black men were slaves
under the law, they couldn’t even walk down the fucking street without being
leashed like some kind of animal. Now I was grouped with them. I kicked at a
rock in the dirt.
The construction area was quiet
now. My brothers had all taken their hover bikes and rode home. The city was in
the throes of sunrise. Light played off the windows, reflecting so brightly I
had to look away. The soft sounds of hover cars began to increase. The day was
starting. I pushed the feeling of guilt and sadness away. I focused on the
anger. The government had to go down. Now more than ever. Not just for Edmond but, for all the men like Edmond. For those who died
nameless and faceless simply because they were gay.
I heard the purr of a hover bike
engine. Their headlights were off and in the dwindled light I could barely see
them. The Underground MC. There were two men, both
dark-skinned and coming up fast. They stopped their bikes only a few feet away.
“Romeo?” the taller of the two
called out.
I nodded and walked up
