day if that’s what you want,” he assured her. “Anything else?”
She shook her head and rubbed her belly, suddenly changing her mind with a resolute shake of her head.
“Nope. Not the pecans. If I eat more of those I won’t be able to get through the door. How about some strawberries? Or grapes! Yes, grapes. But not the green ones, the big purple ones.”
The ones that were out of season and incredibly hard to find? “You got it. Grapes and strawberries.”
“Thank you,” she purred with pure happiness and he melted a little. He’d do anything for his woman.
There wasn’t anything she could ask for that he wouldn’t jump to get for her, even if it meant flying fresh fruit in from the tropics.
Nothing was too good for his lady. And that precious little bundle currently giving Emma perpetual heartburn.
He lowered to kiss her soundly and then, because Dillon would have his balls if he didn’t show up in the next half hour, grudgingly left for the office.

Emma waited for the sound of the front door closing and then waited another five minutes after that.
    She thought he’d never leave!
Slowly swinging her legs over the bed, she slipped into her boots and threw on a coat. She hadn’t lied — a nap was surely on her agenda — but she had other things to do first.
It was hard keeping secrets from a husband who refused to give her a moment of private time!
Vince was the most attentive husband — too attentive sometimes — and his heart was in the right place but he was driving her nuts.
She wasn’t accustomed to being treated like a vase teetering on the edge of total destruction. But in Vince’s mind, being pregnant meant Emma had to be wrapped in bubble wrap and tucked away in a closet for safe keeping.
And she was going out of her mind.
She grabbed her cell and called her sister, Lana. “Are you ready? I can be there in ten minutes,” she said, forgoing the usual pleasantries. She only had so much time before Vince hurried his fine ass home and she wasn’t about to get caught.
“Are you sure you want to do this? Seems a little reckless,” Lana worried and Emma wanted to groan. Was everyone conspiring against her? “I mean, you are about to pop.”
“I’m well aware of that fact,” she ground out. “Just be ready.”
Lana sighed, clearly not a fan of Emma’s idea but resigned to helping her. “Okay, but if this blows up in your face, I’m going to relish telling you I told you so.”
“Fine. Oh, and one more thing, do not under any circumstances tell Laird. He’ll just run straight to Vince. Those two are worse than a bunch of girls.”
Lana chuckled. “Okay. See you in a few.”
Emma clicked off and stuffed her phone in her purse, sudden glee in her heart. Today was going to be awesome.
True to her word, within ten minutes Emma was pulling up to Lana and Laird’s place and Lana was waiting for her outside, shivering in the cold and wearing a displeased frown.
Emma waved her over. “Come on, let’s go. Time’s wasting!”
Lana hustled over to the car and climbed in. “I think this baby has addled your brain.”
“Maybe,” Emma agreed with good cheer. “But sometimes the best ideas are formed in a moment of lunacy. Kinda like when I went undercover at Malvagio. That was pure craziness and look how that ended up?”
“You mean the part where you got the shit beaten out of you and nearly raped? Yeah, good times,” Lana recalled with a snort of derision. “You have a whacked sense of adventure if that’s what you’re pulling as an example.”
“Yeah, but if all that bad stuff hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t have met Vince and you know, yadda yadda, happy bliss, etc.”
“True but heckuva price, don’t you think?”
Emma refused to let Lana’s dour attitude ruin the day. “Okay, party pooper. Enough with the buzzkill. Vince is going to the office for a few hours and between now and then, I’m going to learn how to dance
