wider, accepting more of him, and his tongue delved hungrily into her hot mouth. His hands were tangled in her shoulder-length ebony hair. He could no longer think. Only feel. And what he felt was hot andwet and turning him on more than he’d ever imagined possible.
Damn, he’d lived without this too long.
He was aware of her body leaning into his, of her soft breasts pressing against his hard chest, her arms slipping around his neck. Her soft mewling.
His rock-hard erection.
A year had passed, but it was just the way it had always been between them. Once they touched, it was all fire and need.
Sheldon’s hands urgently roamed Tyanna’s body. He pressed his palms into her back, then dragged them lower, cupping her buttocks. Christ, he wanted to rip off these damn athletic shorts she was wearing with one hard pull. He wanted to feel her naked body against his.
He wanted himself inside her warm softness.
“Tyanna…” He growled. “Ah, baby. It still feels so good.’’
His hands moved for the waist of her shorts, and there they paused. He waited for some reaction from Tyanna, a gentle movement that would let him know he should continue.
There was something different about what he was feeling with her today…. Intense was the only word that would come close to describing it. He’d wanted her before with every fiber of his being, but this feeling was different. It was the kind of feeling that consumed him completely, in a way that frightened him.
Tyanna moaned softly and pulled away. As she looked at him, she brought the back of her hand to her mouth. “Sheldon…”
Sheldon was suddenly disturbed, and he didn’t know why. He turned away, needing to gulp in air. This was, as he’d known it would be, dangerous territory.
“Sheldon, I…’’
She didn’t finish her statement. Sheldon didn’t say a word. He couldn’t.
After a moment, she said, “I don’t think you should be here.’’
He slowly turned back to look at her. Tyanna stood with her arms crossed over her chest, a confused expression on her face.
She was right, of course. Things had gotten out of hand. But damn, if he didn’t want to pick up where they’d left off a year ago. “I know this all seems fast. Out of the blue, even.’’
“When you left, I had to go on.’’
“I understand.”
“Then what do you want from me?’’
Sheldon simply stared at her, unsure of what to say. What did he want?
“I’m still attracted to you,” he finally said.
“And you want to sleep with me?’’
“Is that so wrong? I mean, your body still reacts to mine….”
Tyanna chuckled mirthlessly.
“Tyanna—”
“No, Sheldon.” Her eyes met his, her expression unreadable. “Sex. I know, I shouldn’t be surprised. And sure, it would be so easy to fall into bed with you again. But my heart’s not there.” And even if it was to some degree, it sure as hell shouldn’t be. “I’ve moved on. You gave me no choice.’’
And while it had hurt, she was much better for his breaking off the relationship. She was back to her old self again, no longer deluded by this thing called love.
What had happened with Sheldon had proven to her that no matter when the end came, it always did, and it was bound to be painful. She needed to protect her heart, and the truth was that Sheldon was still a threat.
“I’m trying to figure out who I really am,” Tyanna went on. “What I’m supposed to do with my life. I can’t be a personal trainer forever.’’
“It suits you.’’
“For now. I know I’m not a nine-to-five–type girl—that much is a given. But it will be much easier to figure out what I’m supposed to do if I’m on my own.” And if your touch isn’t distracting me.
Sheldon nodded, though his eyes told a different story. “I didn’t come here planning to do this. But I guess…Well, I guess sex was always easy for us.’’
“Maybe too easy.’’
Sheldon’s eyebrows shot up. “And that’s a bad
