nearly stopped. Just how buzzed was she?
“I am a woman,” she said firmly. “I’m pretty sure that I would like sex if it wasn’t with a secretly gay man. You’re not—”
“No,” he said quickly. “Pretty solid on where I stand on the Kinsey scale.”
“You know what’s the best way I can fight back against Brad and what he did to me?”
Rhetorical question, he assumed, and didn’t answer. He held his breath, captivated by every move she made, every dip of her eyelashes, every quiver of her lips.
“The best way I can fight back is to have sex with you. Hot, passionate, steamy, naked, fabulous sex. With orgasms and everything.”
All the blood left his head and zoomed right for the part of his body in charge of orgasms. Since he was standing right in front of her in snug-fitting jeans, she noticed that fact. He knew she noticed because her gaze dropped to his crotch. His erection noticed that she noticed, and swelled even bigger. It was quite the feedback loop, and his better judgement wasn’t part of it at all.
“So?” All of a sudden, Evie’s chutzpah vanished and she bit her lip, looking vulnerable and almost painfully beautiful. “What do you think about that idea?”
Take it easy, big guy. He wrestled his libido into submission. He needed to approach this situation carefully. “Couple questions,” he finally managed. “Are you trying to get back at Brad somehow by having sex with me?”
“No. Absolutely not. This is about me. I want to reclaim my sexual side. With a man. You, specifically.”
“So this wouldn’t be a…relationship? I’m not good at those. You can ask Mandy, she’ll tell you. I’ll be gone most of the summer, on call or out in the field. It’s dangerous work, the families worry a lot, you probably wouldn’t like that—”
“I’m just talking about sex, Sean. But if you’re not interested, just say so. We’ll pretend we never had this conversation.” She started to spin away from him, but he snagged her before she got too far.
“I’m interested. Very interested. I’ve been wanting you ever since I saw you at the town meeting. I’ve had at least a half-chub most of the time I’ve spent with you.”
    “A half-chub?” She looked fascinated.
“Curious?” She nodded, and he took her hand and rested it on his crotch. The soft pressure made him see stars. “That’s more than half, but you get the picture.”
    “You want me,” she whispered.
“Yes. Like crazy. And that kiss today…” He whistled. “You rocked my world with that kiss.” Her palm pressed against the front of his jeans. There was something so tentative and innocent about her touch. He focused on that and tried to block out the arousal she was generating with her light caresses.
This wasn’t a good idea. Obviously, Evie still carried the emotional scars from that incident with Brad. Even if she was ready to move on and “reclaim her sexuality,” she might be more vulnerable than she realized. He didn’t want to hurt her. He’d never forgive himself if that happened.
“So, are you in or out?” Her throaty voice made his cock pulse. “Because if you’re not, then I’m going to have to find someone else.”
“What?” He gripped her wrist, stilling her so he could focus on something other than his raging hard-on. “Who?”
“You may not know this, but I get asked out a lot. I’ll just wait until one of those people who ask is someone I have some chemistry with. There must be someone out there.”
He pulled her against him, catching just a glimpse of her smug smile before they were front-to-front. “Bullshit. You’re bluffing.”
“Sean Marcus. Do you really think I’m going to give up the whole idea of having sex just because you said no? Seriously?” She coughed, burying the word “arrogant” inside the sound.
When she put it that way…hmm, maybe she wasn’t bluffing. She could end up with anyone. She’d be an easy target for some unscrupulous jerk
