squirm, donât you?â
âSheâs a fake,â Zach said flatly. âLet her do what she wants.â
âNot here. Not now.â Jason lowered his voice, suddenly aware of more than a few curious glances cast in his direction. âDonât you know what the law firm for the estate will do ifââ His blue eyes suddenly sharpened on Adria and it was all she could do to keep from shrinking away from that hate-filled glare. âTake her upstairs. To your suiteâno, better yet, to my house. Youâve got a key.â
âNo oneâs taking me anywhere,â she said.
âYou started this,â Zach reminded her.
âWhich means weâll do things my way,â she countered, knowing she had to appear strongâany sign of weakness in front of the Danvers clan would be suicide.
One side of Zachâs mouth lifted in a crooked, amused grin. âMaybe you are London after all. She was a stubborn thing, too.â
âJust get her out of here. Iâll meet you at the house.â
âWhat about Nicole?â Zach asked and watched his brotherâs mouth tighten at the mention of his wife. Theirs was a rocky marriage at best.
âSheâs out of town. Visiting relatives in Santa Fe.â
Zach didnât ask any questions. Why Jasonâs wife was away on one of the most important nights of her husbandâs life didnât concern him.
âIâm not going anywhere,â Adria stated. âAnd donât talk about me as if Iâm not here. As far as Iâm concerned, I have as much right to be here as the rest of you.â
âShe has a point.â
âGet her out of here, Zach.â
âAs I said, Jason, Iâm not budging,â Adria insisted, unmoved by the older Danvers brotherâs anger. She hadnât grown up on the Montana range without learning a thing or two about arrogant, self-important men. She could be just as headstrong as any man when it came to something she believed in and she was certainâ¦well, nearlyâ¦that she was London Danvers.
Adria noticed the glint in Zachâs eyes and she realized that he was enjoying watching his brother lose his cool. Jason, the attorney. Jason who had married well. Jason who seemed to be the one in charge of the family fortune.
âThis is not the time or the placeââ
âThen name them,â she said firmly and caught a movement from the corner of her eye. Kim, the waif-thin blonde, inched closer, listening to every word.
âWhat?â
âThe time and place, name them.â Adria wasnât backing down, not after sheâd come this far, swallowed all her doubts, and found her nerve.
âMy God!â another male voice whispered behind her and Adria turned to find a man, tall, blond, and lanky, with startling blue eyes that widened when he caught sight of her face. âShe looks just likeââ
âWe know, Nelson,â Jason said, obviously irritated.
âNelson, this is Adria Nash,â Zachary drawled as if enjoying his familyâs discomfiture. âSheâs here claiming to be London.â
Nelson looked quickly from his oldest brother to Zach. âBut she couldnât be. Not really. Everyone knows that London was killedâ¦â
âEveryone assumed,â Adria cut in.
Jasonâs temper snapped. He glared at Zach. âYou got her in here, you get her out.â
âMaybe Iâm not ready to go.â
âIf you want anyone in this family to listen to your story with an open mind, youâll haul your sweet ass out of here,â Jason ordered.
âIâll take care of her.â Zachâs hands were coiling around her arm again but she jerked away from him.
âI donât need anyone to take care of me,â she said, suddenly defiant.
âThen why are you here?â Jason asked. âIf not for a piece of the pie, for someone to take care of you, why didnât
