in Dallas. Doyleâs into everything and he happens to have a large mobile home the Gordons can use until their house is rebuilt. Should be ready in two days.â
Tina dropped her jaw in surprise. âTwo days? My goodness, thatâs fast. How in the world did youââ
He rubbed his jaw. âYou give me a couple minutes to think and a shower, and Iâm good.â
âThank you. Iâm sure the whole family will be thrilled.â
âI donât know about Matthew. He looked like he was getting attached to my chair and my remote.â
She laughed in agreement then silence descended betweenthem. âIs there anything else I can get for you?â she asked, rising.
He rose to his feet too and shook his head. âNo, Iâm hitting the sack. You should do the same. Tomorrowâs gonna be a long one.â
She walked to the door and turned around, startled to find him mere inches from her.
He lifted his hand to her chin. âI mean what I say. Part of the reason you came here was to rest.â
She nodded, determined to ignore the way her heart was pounding in her chest. âYes, Iâve done that.â
He paused a half-beat. âSo you donât need any more rest now?â
She glanced. âToo much rest is boring,â she said. âTell me you donât agree. That is,â she added meaningfully, âif youâve ever actually rested more than a few hours.â
âYeah, I get you. I had appendicitis and that recovery drove me crazy. But Iâm not pregnant and you are,â he said, stroking her jaw again. âDonât overdo it.â
âI thought I wasnât going to have to take orders since Iâm away from my country,â she said with a sigh.
âI wonât be giving you the same kind of orders your brother does,â he said. âYou can count on that.â
Chapter Eight
âA nd why wasnât I invited?â Daniel Logan asked as Zach flipped burgers on the large gas grill.
Zach glanced up from the grill, surprised to see his brother. âHey, what are you doing here?â he asked, since Daniel lived in Dallas.
âI was out this way because Iâm looking into buying some landââ
Zach stared in amazement at his younger brother. âYou? Land? You swore youâd never do any kind of ranching again.â
âYeah, well, weâll see,â Daniel said evasively, glancing around at the crowd. âWhatâs going on here?â
âItâs a cookout,â Zach said in a dry tone. âCanât you tell? Or have you forgotten since you only eat inside restaurants these days?â
Daniel shot him a sideways glance. âWhatâs the deal? You barely ever invite me out here. Now youâre throwing a big neighborhood party.â
âItâs not really a party. Itâs a charity thing, and I didnât throw it,â Zach said, glancing across the large backyard at Tina fluttering from one person to the next, charming each of them. âIt got thrown on me.â
âWhat do youââ Daniel broke off as he gazed in the same direction as Zach. âA woman,â he said in amazement. âYou mentioned something a few weeks ago on the phone about a complication, but you didnât say it was a woman. When did you meet her? Does she live in town or out here? I canât remember seeing her before.â
âIf you can shut off your diarrhea of the mouth for just a moment, Iâll explain,â Zach said, although explaining Tina wasnât the easiest thing in the world. âTina and I met a few months ago and got alongââ He cleared his throat. âPretty well.â
Daniel gave a low laugh. âHow well?â
âWell enough that sheâs pregnant,â Zach said.
Daniel did a double take first at Zach, then at Tina. âDamn. I couldnât tell at first from how the dress fit her, but, yeah.â He turned
