Chapter 1
    The King Returns

It was a foggy day in London town. As the common folk went about their routine as usual, those of high birth and position were abuzz with excitement as they headed to the royal residence for a very special event: King Henry, their enigmatic, mysterious and assertive monarch was returning from his diplomatic mission to France.

If the rumors were true, he had stopped a potential war by quashing his lesser rival, King Philip of France, in diplomatic diatribe. Everyone knew that this was done out of the love for his people and a general dislike of bloodshed rather than the fear of war itself. After all, King Henry had fought and won three wars in the thirty years since he first ascended to the throne at the tender age of fifteen.

“I hear the King still possesses the fine musculature of a soldier,” said Lady Ashmont to Lady Winthrop. Lady Winthrop responded, saying "I hear the King possesses a cock that is so large and hard, he uses it instead of sword when he duels!"

The two women giggled mischievously, and then collectively gasped when the doors to the great hall that was the King's court opened, and a herald wearing fine livery entered.

“All rise for his Majesty, the King Henry!” the herald cried, and all of the people present within the hall, from every great Lord to every beautiful Lady, rose out of respect for one of the greatest Kings that had ever ruled this land.

The King entered. The Ladies of the court gasped once more.

He truly was a sight to behold, this Great King Henry that was becoming a legend before even the twilight of his life. He was tall of stature and broad of shoulder, and walked with an air of authority. However, his gait did possessed neither arrogance nor pride. He walked as a man in charge of ruling an
