I had my bandolier under my shirt.
I didn't think it would be polite for me to meet him armed, so I left the firearms in the room.
I went next door, woke Nathan up, and a few minutes later we made our way to the back of the cabin. We walked towards the central building, taking a path that would lead us back to the same room we ate in last night.
We exited the building and after passing through the outdoor kitchen, we quickly found ourselves in a magnificent formal garden, with perfectly manicured rose bushes and all manner of flowers.
It would have made any landscaper proud.
We followed the marble stepping stones to the left of the garden and soon entered a large open lawn that gently sloped downhill towards a heavily wooded area about a hundred yards from the house.
The trail led us to the tree line and we went in.
It was early morning and the night was slowly being pushed aside. There was a hint of light beginning to show in the sky giving a small glimpse of the rising sun.
A deep fog hovered on the ground, the kind that lay heavy, creating an impenetrable layer of moisture that kept the forest floor from view. As Nathan and I walked, we disturbed the calm tranquility the fog seemed to possess. Overall, it gave the forest a daunting feeling.
We did not walk far into the woods when we saw a figure standing near the archery range.
There were targets mounted on trees at varying distances and all of them looked well used. They all had holes in them from being skewered by a deft hand with a bow.
As we got closer, I made a point to make noise as I approached Peotr. It is not a good idea to approach a predator from behind; you don’t want to startle them.
Peotr slowly turned around and smiled in that infectious way, saying.
"Good morning gentlemen, I take it you slept well?"
"Very well, thank you." Nathan said. I nodded as well.
"I like to come out here whenever I get the chance. The morning’s crisp air is invigorating is it not?" Peotr asked.
The feel in the forest was one of peace. The night was leaving and a new day was dawning. That transition always held a sense of wonder. No one knows what each day will hold. Over time, we recognize that and on a deep fundamental level associate that with the dawn. It takes on a certain sense of renewal and opportunity.
I nodded in agreement. Peotr took a deep breath in through is nose and exhaled mightily through his mouth.
                  "Down to business then."
"Frankenstein was an extremely hard thing to find. I had to use a lot of my resources to get any information for you, John." Peotr said.
"You did find something though?" I asked hopefully.
"Yes, yes. Not a lot but let us hope what I have found will help you get the answers you seek." Peotr said.
"First, you were correct in your assumption that the operation is a joint venture between the US and Russia. Something you may not have been aware of is that China may also be involved, although the funding for said project does not appear in any official U.S. Congressional budget reports.”
“Neither does it appear in any of the Russian or Chinese paperwork, which is odd really. The communists are nothing if not thorough.”
“That can mean a few things. Either it hasn’t been brought up for the fiscal review boards yet and is operating through other budgeting techniques, using slush fund
