the White Tooth Pack—my pack.

Chapter 2
    “Miss Chaney, are you alright?”
His scent, fresh like a pine forest, wafted over me. I inhaled as I nodded.
“My name is Dean Kinson and I’m a Guardian. Were you bitten?”
“No, but one of them assaulted me. He broke my back.”
Moving to my side, he placed expert hands against my backbone. Hands traced electricity over my skin and I gasped.
    “Did that hurt?”
    “No, it’s just—”
Green eyes stared into mine. I avoided them and settled on his body instead. I should have stuck with the top half of him. At least that didn’t cause the flush that burned my pale skin.
He had the best looking cock I had ever seen in my life. I wanted to wrap my lips around it, and gently nibble that pink head.
    “Did he break anything else?”
    “Huh?”
“Did he break any other bones?”
I rubbed my forehead. “I don’t think so.”
He examined my scalp, running his fingers through my hair. I shivered under his ministrations.
“Do you know why they wanted you? Why they attacked?”
“I’m the last of the breeding females. They wanted to take me to their Alpha.”
He paused. “They’ll be back then. They won’t stop until they’ve got you.”
My scalp prickled as he slowly removed his fingers from my hair and then cradled my face. I focused on his mouth as it drew nearer, tipping my head back and then, closing my eyes. His lips never touched mine. Instead, his fingers continued over my jaw and down my neck.
“It doesn’t seem like anything is broken, but I don’t think we should take any chances. We’ll transfer you over to Doc right away.”
I kept my eyes closed, unable to look at him.
Another man arrived on the scene. His voice was soft when he spoke. “It’s the Alpha, Guardian Kinson.”
I cracked an eye open as he passed a cell phone to Dean, who took it and answered.
    He listened for several minutes.
“Excuse me, Alpha. You want me to bring her there now? I think she may need some medical attention.”
Straining my ears, I managed to catch some of the Alpha’s words.
    “Is she mobile?”
He turned to me. “Do you think you can walk, Miss Chaney?”
    “I can.”
    “She says she is, Sir.”
“Good. Bring her to me now. I’ll give you further instructions upon your arrival.”
    “Yes, Sir.”
“And I’ll require your services, Dean. Relinquish command to your subordinate. You’ll be in my employ from now on.”
“Sir, are you sure you want me to do that? Members of the Red Eye Pack attacked Miss Chaney and she says that they’re suffering from Blood Fever. Wouldn’t it be better if I stayed and went after them?”
“No, this is far more important. I need the best guardian we’ve got.”
    “Alright, Sir.”
“Get here right away.” He ended the call.
Dean lowered the device from his ear and handed it back to his assistant. “Get us some clothes, Mayer.”
The man gave him a curt nod and hurried off.
More men dressed like Dean arrived on the scene. They began a clean-up detail and soon the bodies were removed.
Dean took my hand and helped me up. I stumbled and he wrapped an arm around my waist. Warm, smooth skin met mine.
“My driver—one of the Red Eyes went after him.”
    “We found him.”
    “Was he…”
    “Dead.”
I slumped against his supporting arm. “Poor Greg.”
    “He didn’t suffer.”
“Did you catch the one who killed him?”
“Yes. He was destroyed on scene.”
Mayer brought clothes and while we dressed, Dean gave him command of the guardian task force. Guardian uniforms, though drab, are surprisingly comfortable. I didn’t put the dog collar on.
Dean walked me over to his car, which proved to be a black Humvee. I got into the front and found myself on the way to Alpha Morte’s hotel room once more.

Chapter 3
“I’ve never seen you before,” my savior said as we drove.
“I’ve been in Baton Rouge, under quarantine. The Alpha wanted to be assured of my immunity before he accepted
