didn’t need this. Why was he here, now, at the Piggly Wiggly of all places? She didn’t remember that behemoth he called a truck in the parking lot and that thing was hard to miss. Glancing at his cart she noticed it was suspiciously empty.
She narrowed her eyes. “What are you doing here? Did you follow me?” Damn, why did he have to stand so close?
His sly smile was slow and easy. Fine laugh lines fanned out from eyes that glittered with mischief. His teeth were straight white, and there seemed to be so many of them. Was that an ever so slight hint of a dimple in his left cheek? Yeah, yeah it was.
Holy Moses, the man was a wet dream walking and that smile was pure sin. He wore button fly jeans, God help her, and a black polo shirt with two buttons open. He stepped closer, picked up the small cucumber she had selected for her salad and met her gaze.
“Aw, Becca, this will never do, sugar.”
“Huh?” she mumbled, momentarily distracted by thoughts of tasting his neck. “What?”
He lifted a brow. “This.” He lifted the little cucumber. She stared at it frowning, shaking her head “Becca, this will never satisfy you, baby, not now anyway, not since the other night.” Rebecca’s mouth fell open and she stared at him, dumbfounded. He looked at it, pressing his lips together, and shook his head. “Nope, this won’t do at all.”
He strode past her to the produce department and started searching through the sparse selection of cucumbers.
Rebecca shut her mouth with a snap. Fascination, disgust, curiosity and anger began to war in her mind, making her want to scream in frustration. She marched over to him and grabbed his arm in an unsuccessful attempt to turn him to face her. His bicep was round, tight and warm under the cotton of his sleeve. The contact was electric, although slight. He looked down at her hand then at her.
“Now you listen to me, Sheriff.” Jerking her hand away, she spoke low, her voice trembling with rage and an overcharge of sensual awareness, which she chose to ignore.
“I will never, ever sleep with you again. Do you understand me?”
He grinned. “Sure, sugar.” He held up a long, round, smooth cucumber. “This one is damn near perfect.”
Her eyes widened and she stammered a moment.
“Yeah, beautiful, isn’t it? “ He pushed it toward her at an obscene angle and she leaned away. “Feel how smooth…hard to find ‘em that smooth and firm, too.”
“It was for a salad…I wasn’t…”She started shaking her head and backing up.
“You’re not…did you hear me?” She stopped. Shaking off the shock, she put her hands on her hips and glared at him. “I said…”
“Yeah, I heard what you said. “ He looked at her pointedly. “However, your body is telling me something else. “

    “Teasing me won’t work, Jackson.”
“I haven’t started teasing you yet, Becca, and already your cheeks are flushed pink with heat. So is your neck.” He ran a finger down her neck to the hollow at her throat. “I love it when your neck does that and I’d be willing to bet my truck that your breasts are rosy, too. That love bite must be fading by now. That has to be remedied. Becca baby, I know they miss my attention; I can see your pretty nipples pressing against that cute little tank top. And those wildcat eyes of yours have already gone dark.”
“Sheriff,” she snarled in frustration. Closing her eyes, she pleaded softly. “You are making a difficult situation worse. So unless you have official business that requires my assistance, just leave me alone.”
    “Can’t.” He sounded almost regretful.
    “Why?”
He gave her a sideways look. “Do you really want me to say it again? Here? In the middle of Piggly Wiggly?”
She pressed her lips together and stalked off. She rammed Jackson’s cart out of her way and tried to remember what she came for in the first place. Oh, the arrogance, the audacity of the man! What appalled
