what’s in the bag, Peter? More to drink?” I swipe the key card and allow him to enter before me.
The second he steps in, he yells at the top of his lungs, “She’s going out with him again!”
My jaw hits the ground as the door slams behind me, which adds a dramatic effect to a situation I’m not sure needed it.
“What?” Justin’s voice declares loudly and firmly from upstairs. Like some sort of superhero, he hops over the balcony edge onto the lower level. “What? Are you really going out with him again?”
“I…”
“He is cute,” Belle smacks on a piece of gum as her head pops out of the bedroom.
“But I…”
“And a great dresser,” Eiden pipes in, chuckling under his breath.
“And loaded,” Aiden puts in his two cents, all to watch Justin flip out.
“It’s like he reminds me of someone,” Peter shakes his head, taking the groceries through the doorway to the small kitchen.
“Belle, talk some sense into her,” Justin cuts me off before I can respond.
My body leans against the wall, “I…”
“Seriously,” Justin interrupts again, his eyes focused on Belle’s. “Talk to her.”
“This is a new color on you,” Belle giggles, her wings fluttering behind her. She heads my direction and tosses her hands up in the air, “What’s he going on about?”
“He thinks I’m going out with Nick again…”
“Well, are you?” Justin snaps his arms across his white tank top-covered chest.
“If you don’t lose the attitude, I just might!” I snap back. Flustered, I toss my hands in the air, “I never said yes to a second date.”
“But, she didn’t say no,” Peter calls from the kitchen.
Annoyed, I growl, “Isn’t there a bottle you should be drowning your sorrows in?”
Strolling out of the kitchen, he flashes me a whiskey bottle, “Right here.”
I glare at him as Justin snaps, “Did he ask you out again?”
“Yes, but…”
“What did you say?”
Uncomfortable at the crowd watching us like we’re on some low-budget reality cable show, I lower my voice, “Can we please talk about this upstairs in our room?”
Justin looks around and stands very defensively, “No. What did you say?”
Hurt that he would rather try to stand tough in front of his friends than give us a real chance, I lick my lips, “I said I’d text him.”
“You said you’d text him?”
“Yeah.”
“With your cell phone?”
Confused by the line of questioning, I stutter, “What else would I use? My mind phone?”
“I can’t believe you,” Justin growls.
Even more upset than he is at me, I snap, “Well, let me help you.” Yanking my phone out of my purse, I show it to him, “Why don’t I go do that now?”
I push my body past Justin’s as Peter calls to me, “Could you forward us the message, please?”
“Shut up, Peter!” I yell as my heels click the wooden steps, my back still facing him.
Once upstairs, I make a straight shot for the room, slam the door, and lock it. Justin wants to show off in front of his friends, I mean our friends. Or, are they just his
