want you to think of you rself as alone. You have me now,” John said and leaned in again to both kiss and hug her.
She felt like someone was wringing her he art out like a wet bathing suit. She looked over John’s shoulder and saw Leon watching her. She put one arm around John and gave him a little half hug. Her eyes never breaking from Leon’s.
She wondered what he thought about the fact that she was standing there hugging another man in front of him. She had never been asked out on a date by someone other than the person she was on the date with. This was one for the books.
It was too bad that Ali couldn’t save her from this one. She still had not even told her about John, let alone the fact that she was actually interested in the jerk that spilled her drink all over her.
John pulled back from the hug. “Here, take some money for your ride. At least I won’t have to worry about you taking the train or standing out there waiting for a bus. Do the buses run at this time?” John handed her a hundred dollar bill.
“I can’t take this,” Lilly said looking down at the money in her hand.
“If you don’t then I am going to stay here and insist on driving you home.”
Truth be told it was probably what he really wanted to do. Lilly could see the dark circles under his eyes, she wasn’t sure if they had gotten darker or she had not noticed them earlier.
If taking his money was going to get him to go home how could she refuse? She opened her clutch and slid it in the little flap next to her license.
“Please call or use your app to call for a ride before you are ready to leave. It is safer if the car is waiting for you when you go out. Text me when you get home. I will probably be sleeping, but at least I won’t be worried.”
“You got it.” Lilly leaned in and gave him a kiss on the cheek. She hoped that if she kissed him first he wouldn’t attempt to make out with her before he left. He didn’t seem like the PDA kind of person, but just in case.
“I’ll be dreaming about you. I’ll call you tomorrow.” John finally turned and walked toward the exit.

Lilly squeezed in by the bar. Her beer had gotten warm so she wasn’t going to drink it. West Front started to play so most of the crowd had pushed their way closer to the stage. She was impressed with the enthusiasm of the crowd.
There were actually a few bar stools open. She found one that looked like it was closest to where Marylou was tending to customers. She sat down and pushed her beer cup forward toward the edge of the bar so it didn’t look like she was drinking it. She put her clutch on the bar and kept one hand on it while she turned her body toward the stage to see the band.
Lilly worked hard to make sure her posture was the tallest and straightest she could get it. Her legs were crossed and her dress fell to the sides where the fabric split exposing more of her shiny legs. She was working hard to look like she wasn’t working hard at being sexy.
“What’s up with this full beer?” Marylou asked.
“Oh, it got warm. Blah. I think I’m going to do that orange vodka and cranberry. I am wearing black and safe from your brother, since he is on stage.” They started to laugh.
Marylou was back in a flash with her drink. “Where is your date?”
“He was tired, I told him he should go home and get some sleep.”
    “He’s good, isn’t he?”
“What? What do you mean?” Lilly wasn’t following what was so good about John.
“Leon, West Front, the band. They are really good. I might be a little partial.” Marylou leaned against the bar on her elbows watching the show. There were two other bartenders and most of the people were focused on the band.
Leon’s sex appeal kicked into overdrive when she watched him on stage. The spotlight shone on him as he belted out the lyrics to a song about living on the edge. He strummed away at the acoustic guitar he was playing. Everyone was singing along with him. The song came
