waist. âThe nose knows.â He poured in two cup of rice and covered the pot. âRemember those Saturdays?â âAbsolutely. I figured it would be like the old times, a pleasant memory.â He turned around. Michelle looked up into his eyes that were identical to her own. âI could use that right now.â She backed away and lowered her head. Jackson lifted her chin with the tip of his finger.âI donât like tears in my chili,â he teased. âAnd I was thinking that maybe itâs time we carried on the tradition. Share the famous family recipe with Shay.â Michelle wiped away a sniffle and a slow smile gently blossomed. âI think sheâd like that.â âGreat. You remember all the ingredients, right?â âOf course!â she said. He wiped his hands on a dishtowel. âGood. I got the basics started and you can finish up with Shay while I get ready for a date.â âA date! Withâ¦with Zoe?â He grinned like heâd won the lottery. âYep. Iâm picking her up at six.â Michelle leaped up and wrapped her arms around his neck. âI am sooo crazy happy for you.â She kissed him all over his face. âHow did all this happen?â âIf you let go of my neck I swear Iâll tell you,â he said, chuckling. She settled down and sat in a chair. She crossed her legs and waited. Jackson leaned against the fridge and told her about going to the museum and asking for her. âSo you just asked her out to dinner and she said yes? You could be a serial killer,â she said with a grin. âThanks, sis.â âYou know what I mean. You donât know each other.â âLast time I checked thatâs how people got to know each other. Dinner, lunch, talking.â He winked. âI guess itâs been a while,â she said softly and lowered her gaze. Jackson came over to her. He took her hand. âHey, sorry.â âItâs all right.â She stroked his cheek. âIâm happy for you. I really am.â âThanks.â He kissed the tip of her nose. âSo Iâm going to leave Shay and the Treme family recipe in your very capable hands. I donât want to be late.â He started out of the kitchen. âSheâs a lucky lady, Jack.â Jackson glanced back over his shoulder. âI have a feeling that Iâm the lucky one.â  Zoe was a bundle of nerves as six oâclock approached. Sheâd changed clothes an hour earlier and spent the rest of the time pacing back and forth in her office. Sheâd called Sharlene at least three different times just to be reminded that she was going to have a wonderful time. Sheâd been so consumed with her impending date that sheâd totally forgotten about seeing Mike and Linda together earlier in the afternoon until Linda knocked on her office door. âCome in.â Linda eased the door open and stuck her headin. Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw Zoe all dressed up. âWow. Is it okay if I come in?â Zoeâs face heated. âSure.â Linda came in and closed the door behind her. âGreat dress.â âThanks.â She quickly sat down and tried to look busy as she began flipping through papers on her desk. âWhat can I do for you?â âYou already did it.â Zoe looked up. âWhat do you mean?â âI talked to Mike today, like you said.â Zoe folded her nervous fingers together. The scene sheâd witnessed earlier played in her mindâs eye. âWhat happened?â âHe listened. I told him that I realized that I was making his life miserable, but it wasnât my intention. I told him that sometimes I have an unorthodox way of letting someone know that Iâmâ¦interested in them.â Zoe smiled. âAnd?â âHe said he thought I hated his guts. Thatâs why he never asked me
