but no one else. They had been deep in
conversation, when they saw her enter, their voices trailed off.
Kneus was the first to break away from the others, and come toward her.
He held out his hand, taking hers he gently shook up and down like she had shown
Kniam that time in medical. "Amber." his voice was slightly throaty,
and her eyes shot to his. He did a loud clearing, coughing thing, "Thank
you for helping us."
Kniam was suddenly at her side, and taking her hand from Kneus turned her
to the others. “Amber, this is my brother Knaleg.”
Now that she knew they were actually related, had been cloned from
brothers all those years ago…Amber could see the family resemblance. They all
had the height, black hair, and purple eyes. In her opinion Kniam was much more
handsome in features, and more muscular. She was honest with herself enough to
know that they were all very good-looking men, her bias was due to the fact
that she was attracted to Kniam.
“These are council members Ailech, Asteen and Thian. My other brothers
you have already met, Knollig and Kneus.” Everyone did a formal bow, and then
turned to take their seats.
After the initial embarrassment of facing the council members, they got
down to business. Kneus, Ailech, Knaleg, Asteen, Thian, Knollig and Kniam were
the only ones in attendance, and the meeting wasn't being broadcast. Once they
had some ground-rules established, then the rest of the community would be
polled for their opinion, then a decision made.
Everyone was seated in his usual places, and Amber was in a chair in
front of Kniam. There was a quick explanation from Kneus on how they think the
port pad was activated.
“We think that the injuries from your hands, though only scratches was
enough to activate the device.” Kneus explained. “The blood contained enough
DNA to be recognized and once activated sent you to the location that was last
attempted. That would be the port pad the original fathers were given to try to
reach Terra.” Kneus paused to take a deep breath, “It is a long story, but we
placed the port pad that was programmed for Earth on Antilles. It was initially
here on Terraneu, and we used it to reverse engineer a duplicate. The duplicate
never worked to reach Earth, but our predecessors did manage to “dial”
Antilles. Their port pad was very ancient, and not very reliable. So we only
used theirs a couple of times. Once to make first contact to see if the
inhabitants, if any were friendly. After the Antilleans became allies of sorts,
we used their port pad again to place one of ours in the camp you were taken
to. After we place our own port pad to Antilles, it was decided to also place
the original one there for safe keeping, even though it had never worked to
connect to Earth. We barter with the Antilleans to guard it for us.” Kneus
paused to see if she had any questions, when Amber remained silent he
continued. “We minimized the port pad locations that reach here to Terraneu in
case of a hostile encounter, just as the original port pad only reaches Earth.”
Kneus paused again, and brought a holograph of the port pad locations.
“We are only going to be able to access the Earth port pad through the one on
Antilles that you came through.”
Amber broke in, “That means that you will have to work out a better way
of “greeting” the Earth women to Antilles.” She laughed, “I don’t think being
caught in one of those Antillean bubbles would work as a great ice breaker!”
Kniam asked, “What kind of transition do you think the Earth women will
need Amber?” he leaned forward, “Should we bring them to Antilles and stage
them there until we are sure of their acceptance of their new circumstance? Or
would they be more comfortable in Terraneu, and this is where they should be
brought?”
Amber thought for a moment then replied, “I think staging on Antilles to
get them comfortable, then moved to Terraneu or sent home to Earth depending
