behind me. “And I
thought we were all buddies after that great moment we shared.”

Epilogue
Blaze
Volcano heat surged under us, warming my
toes.
I raised all three of us high in the air.
Carmen had her luscious arms wrapped around
my neck. Her creamy legs straddled my waist.
“Are you paying attention to this flight?”
Mason asked. “Or are you going to stare at my wife the whole
time?”
I held the vampire’s hand with my right
hand.
We both couldn’t deal with any closer of a
hold.
    “Be quiet, Mason,” Carmen said.
Her honey scent radiated from his retched
skin. It took every brain cell in my body to force me not to drop
him.
Would she believe it was an accident if I
dropped him in a volcano?
    I doubted it.
Those violet eyes peered into mine. A rough
wind rushed through her ginger curls. I wanted to take her in this
midnight sky as Adae’s castle appeared farther and farther behind
us.
    She came for me.
It was more than anyone had done in all of my
years.
“See,” she said. “I told you it would be
okay.”
We’d gotten out of the prison tunnels with no
problem. It would be at least two more hours before someone will
open my cell to deliver me.
Once Adae discovers my absence, he’ll come
looking for Carmen and Jade.
    Regret soared in me.
    Am I being selfish?
I’d lived for two hundred years and now my
freedom will provide a short lifespan for Carmen and her
daughter.
    Adae would not stop.
No realm would provide shelter from his
storm.
I tightened my hand around Carmen’s tiny
waist.
Yes. I was selfish to leave with her, but now
I would protect her and Jade with my life.
    Adae will have to die.
No more deals and negotiations. He can no
longer step on the earth that my love exists on. No harm could come
to her.
“We’re too low,” the vampire complained.
“Mason, just relax. We’re almost out of
here,” Carmen said as she continued to look at me.
I kissed her, enjoying the honey that greeted
my tongue.
A pathetic hiss came from below. No doubt
from the corpse.
He thought he had a rightful claim to her,
but it expired the moment I buried my face between those creamy
thighs.
    Yes.
I will have to kill him.
“We’re free.” Carmen rested her head on my
shoulder. “We’ve made it over the volcanoes.”
I rubbed my jaw against those silky curls.
“Where do you want to go now?”
“The portal to the fairy realm,” she
said.
“And will we be taking him?” I asked.
For several seconds she paused. Her heartbeat
sped up. She sighed and nodded her head, hiding those beautiful
violet eyes from me.
    “He’s Jade’s father,” she whispered.
“Is that it?” My body stiffened. “What is he
to you?”
For the first time in two hundred years, I
held my breath, waiting in fear for her response.
    “I don’t know,” she muttered.
Then he will have to die.
The only question remaining was, who would I
kill first?
    This vampire—or Adae.
