Nya wanted me to come here.”
Both twins seemed to come to life at the mention of his friend’s name. “You’ve seen Nya? What does she have to do with all this?” Blade demanded.
“Has she been here?” Cutter questioned him sounding every bit as eager as his brother.
When they’d last spoke, Nya had mentioned the twins being a bit of a thorn in her side. It was obvious their interest in her wasn’t simply mild curiosity.
“I spoke to her some weeks ago. She’s the reason I’m here. Nya has been keeping an eye on Sydney and her family for years. They were her last living descendants so she had a vested interest to look out for them. Then when Sydney lost her family Nya became even more protective of her, but she had to stop her visits because Adonis was having her watched. So she entrusted me to keep an eye on Sydney. I watched her like I promised I would but when I first saw Sydney, I couldn’t approach her like I told Nya I would. I think even then I knew she was my bloodmate. I couldn’t complicate my life at the time. I felt that just keeping tabs on her was sufficient even though I told Nya that I had actually met Sydney first hand to reassure her. The last time I talked to her, she was insistent that I come down here and pose as a boarder. She wouldn’t tell me why, but she must have sensed something the last time she was here.”
“But you didn’t feel it during your last visit?” Cutter asked. “You were still a vampire then were you not?”
“I was but like I said, I kept my distance. Nya has actually been inside this house. She pretended to be a salesperson so it gave her an opportunity to speak with Sydney. Nya didn’t elaborate beyond that.”
“And have you spoken to Nya lately?” Blade wanted to know.
“No. I’m not sure when I’ll see her again, but she knows how to get in contact with me.”
“Do you know how to get in contact with her?” Blade persisted.
Giovanni raised a brow. “Even if I did, I wouldn’t share that information. Look, it didn’t escape my notice the last time we were all together that you two have taken an interest in her but you’ve got to know, she was Adonis’s bloodmate. She’s still dealing with that. You two are going to have to give her time.”
Cutter flared his nostrils obviously not pleased with Giovanni’s words. “How much time would you suggest?”
“As much time as she needs. And for the record, she’s worth more than just a fling so if that’s all you two have in mind where she’s concerned I’d suggest you leave her alone.”
Blade narrowed his eyes to ice blue slits. “You seem to have a pretty low opinion of us considering you just needed our help.”
“And I appreciate what you’ve done. But Nya is my friend. I’ve known her for a long time. She might wear a tough exterior but on the inside she’s quite sensitive. I will not have either of you hurt her.”
Cutter crossed the room to stand in front of Giovanni. “Trust us when we say that’s the last thing we’d ever do to her. We’ve been looking for her actually. But we lost her trail a few weeks ago. It’s like she vanished into thin air.”
Giovanni shrugged. “When she wants to be found, she’ll make an appearance. She has connections who can help her disappear if she so chooses.”
The twins looked at each other and shared a secret look. By the time they returned their attention to Giovanni, he felt like they had secretly communicated something to each other. “Well, we should be going, but should you need us, we’ll leave our numbers. And if we don’t answer right away, you can always contact Steel or our sister, who has a way of reaching us without technology,” Blade instructed.
“Wait!” Giovanni stood. He didn’t want them to disappear just yet. “What should I do? Am I supposed to wait this thing out? Is there a spell you can perform to make this thing I’m going through vanish?”
They shook their heads simultaneously but Blade
