and grip him in a death hold, milking every drop of his release from him. When the last shiver ran through him, he took his time turning her over and moving her up on the bed. He slipped on a new condom after tossing away the other and collapsed next to her before pressing a kiss to her shoulder. Arranging her leg over his hip, he entered her slowly. He wasn’t completely hard, but he didn’t like the idea of being separated from her for even a moment.
Jenesi sighed and tightened her leg around him, bringing him deeper into her. “I think we definitely broke a record this time.”
He chuckled and smoothed her hair over her ear. “I’m sure we’ll break a lot more.”
She peeked her eyes open and cupped his cheek. “I’d like that.”
His heart thumped as he gathered her closer into his arms. Here, with Jenesi, he’d he found his home, his paradise. But would she wait for him to return?

Chapter Twelve

Jenesi leaned her forehead against the shower tiles and let out a sigh as the hot water poured over her aching body. Matthew had already left her to start breakfast. She smiled as she traced a tile.
Even though he hadn’t told her he loved her, she’d felt somewhat reassured after their lovemaking last night. The little things he’d done, said, and the way he’d made love to her, told her enough for now. There was no point in thinking about the future, no point in stressing over it other than to take it slow and see where it led them. He cared for her and desired her over the other women, and she should be happy with that. Right? Besides, he’d admitted to not wanting to leave her, so that was another step together. At least he wasn’t saying they wouldn’t see each other after he returned to work.
She picked up the loofah, soaped it, and rubbed it over her body. Her hips were a bit bruised from his manhandling, but she loved it. She’d rather have him out of control and only aware of her than to experience the restraint he displayed in front of everyone else. It was a part of him he didn’t show just anyone.
As she turned off the water, she heard a loud bang and louder men’s voices. She rushed out of the shower, dried herself, and wrapped her robe around her before she tore down the stairs. As she approached the kitchen, she slowed her steps.
    “I can’t believe you. That’s my sister!”
Jenesi covered her mouth. What the hell was Jared doing home?
    “I know she’s your sister. I care for her. This isn’t a one-night stand.”
    “Then what is it?”
“We’ve been seeing each other for a few weeks.”
She heard a crunch and a loud snap then a grunt.
“Stop it, Jared. Let me explain.”
Jenesi pressed her back against the wall.
“Explain, asshole. You slept with my sister. I can’t believe you. I trusted you!”
“It’s not like that. I care for her.”
    “Then what are your intentions?”
    Silence permeated the air.
“I don’t know. It’s complicated. I…want to ask her to wait for me, but it wouldn’t be fair.”
A tightness formed in her throat. She squelched the urge to rush into there and tell him she’d wait forever if she had to, but his next words made her heart shatter.
“I got called back to duty. I have to report in on Tuesday. I don’t know how to tell her.”
Jenesi gripped her chest. Anger made it hard to breathe. Why hadn’t he told her?
“You know your job, Matt. You’re never going to settle down. Why are you stringing her along?”
    “I’m not…I don’t want to. I couldn’t find a way to tell her.”
She slid down the wall and dropped to her knees. Tears rushed to her eyes. Pain imploded in her chest. Everything had been a lie. Everything he’d said didn’t mean anything.
“Jared, I don’t know how to let her go. I don’t think I can. And if I leave, she’ll….”
She’d had enough. Wiping her cheeks with the backs of her hands, she stood up, pasted on a smile, and stormed into the kitchen.
    “You’re home!”
