deep thought about what condition they would find Pam, and since James knew of Conrad’s strange tastes… what had he put her through?
Suddenly Michael appeared on the deck from the inside of the yacht and gave James a high sign. He ran a telltale finger across his throat.
“ What?” James shouted back. “They’re dead?”

“ What the fuck?” James stared down at the bound and bloodied body of Conrad. He was naked with several ugly marks of bruising on his dead flesh. His head was caved in on one side, his throat cut. Last of all, his severed dick was lying next to him. Not a nice way to go. These people were barbarians. Manny found a folded tarp in the engine room and threw it over Conrad’s body.
“ No sign of the young woman,” Juan chimed in. “We’ve looked everywhere. There is a bedroom and bathroom door that are smashed in…most likely that’s where she was holed up. Gone now.”
James knew that was the case and shook his head slowly in dismay. Pirates!
“ We’ve got to radio the Coast Guard.” James made the radio call and told them the story. He said he would activate the yacht’s EPIRB, which broadcasts a unique registered distress signal that not only tells rescuers where you are, but who you are.
He would let the Coast Guard handle this, and Pleasure would head off the way they intended…towards Haiti then on to Columbia. Pirates were well known in these parts. James feared this was a wild goose chase.

Another long day with no small vessels in sight. A couple of yachts were spotted, but instinct told James, Pam was not aboard. They had to press on, stay on track. She may be dead for all they knew, but if he stayed the course, at least he could say he tried. He did not inform Barbie; that could wait until he returned.
Evening was bearing down. As they rounded the Windward Passage in the Caribbean Sea, they spotted a vessel bobbing in the distance not that far from shore. Using binoculars they saw it was a around a thirty foot craft…the type mostly used by amateur pirates.
Funny thing was it looked abandoned unless everyone was sleeping…but it wasn ’ t even dark yet!
Focusing in as close as he could, James said, “By God, we can’t be this lucky…it can’t be the boat we want, but you never know…just never know. I wonder why it appears to be empty?” The boat bobbed gently as though beckoning them.
They approached closer, still no sign of activity.
Pulling up next to the old vessel, they could obviously see there was no one on board. Manny, Juan and Michael boarded, and immediately saw too much drying blood covering the floor amid blood-soaked, jumbled colorful blankets, and squashed plastic bags of food.
“ James, it looks bad here too,” Manny hollered out.
“ What the fuck—” James was getting angry. This was really becoming an ordeal. Were these guys even implicated with Conrad and Pam? “I’m coming aboard!”
The four of them stood in the middle of the gently rocking craft figuring out a possible ‘pirate attack on pirates’! What else could it be? If Pam had been on board, where was she? Alive? Taken again?
Suddenly, they heard a muffled thumping. James held up his hand to shush any talking. “Listen.”
The muffled thumping resumed. They looked towards the head of the boat where a storage compartment of some sort was visible, with a makeshift lock. They rushed to it, kicked at the old wooden catch, and broke it in two.
“ Oh my God!” James exclaimed almost breathlessly as he helped pull out a filthy, thin, naked woman from the small confined space. Pam’s fearful eyes were huge amidst the swirling mass of dirty tangled blonde hair. She gasped for water and shook visibly from weakness. She bled from a small cut on her head. Her body, nearly head to toe, was black and blue from hands that had pawed her.
Her blurred vision finally recognized James and burst into tears.
