door. It took her a few seconds to realize she was ogling his fine ass. At the top of the stairs, he glanced over his shoulder and winked. Alexa hustled into the room, slamming the door on his smirking face. Her only saving grace was he couldn’t see how red her face surely was.
She tossed off her clothes on the way to the bathroom, expecting to find more wood like the rest of the house. What she encountered was straight out of Better Homes and Gardens. Remembering her promise to hurry, she opted for the shower when all she wanted was to hop in the tub made for three or four.

Chapter Six
    ––––––––
A lexa dressed in her borrowed clothes, happy they fit, and grateful for the new underwear. The sound of men’s voices could be heard from below, their banter made her smile. Again, she wished she’d had real friends. With resolve, she shook her hands out like a prize fighter entering the ring and skipped down the stairs. Scents of something heavenly hit her as soon as she entered the first floor.
“Sorry, I took too long. I planned to make you both dinner.”
“Tay is a great cook. Besides, he lost at rock, paper, scissors.” Kai leaned against the counter with a bottle of water in his hand.
“Wow, I’d have liked to have seen that. This smells great.” She watched Tay flip burgers on the stove. “Can I make a salad or anything?”
Both men looked at her like she’d grown two heads. “My apologies ma’am, but we don’t have the fixings for that. You can whip up some instant mashed potatoes if you’d like.”
Her mouth threatened to drop open, but she controlled it. “I can do that.”
After dinner she insisted on loading the dishwasher, while Tay did what they called a ‘perimeter check’. She understood the need for such actions, but hated both men were willing to put their lives on the line for her.
“What’s put that look on your face?” Kai’s deep voice made her jump.
She chewed on her lip. “You guys do this sort of thing all the time, right?”
Kai nodded. “Although not in such nice accommodations. Or with such a gorgeous woman to protect.”
Damn, did he have to say things like that to make her resemble a tomato? “How does this work? Can I go outside or am I stuck inside? I mean I don’t want to be a bother, and I’m fine doing what you tell me.”
The big man coughed, making her grab a bottle of water out of the fridge. “Here. Are you okay?”
Taking the bottle from her, Kai downed the drink before he responded. “Yeah, I swallowed down the wrong pipe.”
    His big brown eyes sparkled.
“This place is as secure as we can hope on short notice. There’s even a panic room, which I didn’t know about until you were in the shower. Rowan’s given me the code. Follow me.” He indicated the hallway near the room Tay was sleeping in.
She did her best not to stare at his ass, following him down the corridor, running her hands over the polished wood a sense of wonder fell over her. What would it be like to own a home of her own like the one she was being led through, flittered across her mind.
“I’ve reset the code to one only you, me and Tay know. That means, if something happens you lock yourself in here, and don’t let anyone in. Period. Got me?” His military gear made him look totally in control, and ready to kick ass.
Shit, she needed to get her mind off his ass.
“Alright. Like I said, I’ll do whatever you say.” She swallowed, her throat all of a sudden seemed dry and she licked her lips for a second time, noticing the way he tracked her movements.

K ai felt his control snap. Watching her eat had been a test of his control, knowing she’d been naked just moments before had already set his body on fire. Now he wanted to trace her lips with his own tongue, wanted to see if she was as sweet as she looked. “Woman, you are testing my limits.”
Alexa sucked her bottom lip into her mouth, making him growl.
    “I don’t mean to do...”
