about love?”
“What do you think about love, Vania?”
“With the right shove in the wrong direction, love can twist into something ugly. By now, Matt’s probably slashed up my clothes with one of his scalpels.”
    Evan scowled. “Matt will —"
“I appreciate your help while downstairs. But leading him into believing we’re an item was a mistake.”
“I didn’t lead him in anything.”   The sudden anger and raw possession in Evan’s eyes mirrored what she’d seen in Matt and it terrified her. “The bastard will stay away from you.”
The presumed ownership in his words was too much, the past two days too long.   Abruptly, she stood. “I’m checking out the other rooms.”
    “Vania, wait.”
With her heart in her throat, she walked down the short hallway, which led to three bedrooms and a bathroom.
    “Vania?”
    “What?”
The first bedroom was empty of furniture and featured blinds instead of drapes. Oscar’s room, she thought. He’d enjoy this area more than his current residence at Libby’s downstairs office.   Vania could shut him inside this room during the night with a TV and some toys. That way, Oscar wouldn’t powder puff her nose at three in the morning with his furry paws.
“You walked away from me,” Evan said with the air of superiority that men of his importance usually carried. “I’m concerned about you —"
“I’m looking for the most comfortable bedroom.” She focused on slowing her breathing, staying calm.
The second and third bedrooms were both feminine without appearing as though a teenager decorated them, so mattress compatibility would be the tiebreaker.
“You can’t walk away when talk gets serious.” Evan stood in the hall. “I mean what I say. Matt roughed you up and he’s not coming near you again. Even if I have to put a security detail on you.”
“You wouldn’t dare!” To have people watching her constantly, invading her privacy? No way! She’d had enough of this beautiful man for one day. “We’re no longer on company time, Mr. Easton . I’ll see you at the office in the morning.”
Vania marched into the second bedroom and took a closer look.
“You’re going to see me right now.” Evan wrapped his hands around her waist and gently but firmly pressed her against the wall.
He wasn’t hurting her, but Vania got the distinct impression he wouldn’t let her go until she listened. And he felt wonderful behind her, all hot and hard. “Fine.” She let her forehead touch the cool wall. “I’m listening.”
“I don’t want another man touching you.”   He released the hair clip that secured her up-do. “I don’t want another woman touching me, either.”
    Her back arched.
He tossed her hair clip on a nearby dresser. Vania’s hair fell down her back, sliding between their bodies. “Let’s take a moment to reconnect, Baby, to wash away Matt’s touch.” One of his hands remained on her waist, the other combed through her loose hair.
“You confuse me. One minute I want you, the next…” She trembled from his intensity, hated the vulnerability.
“Doesn’t matter.” A fleeting hand skimmed her breast, teasing her tight nipple. “You want me, Vania, which is enough for now.”
    “You’re —"
“Hush.” Evan’s hand tightened on her hip, steadying her as he pressed his erection against her back.
Vania’s eyes fluttered closed. Her body’s reaction to him was almost frightening.
Evan’s scent, his breath on her nape as he brushed her hair from her shoulder, was oddly familiar of the time she’d played with Matt in Club Saturday’s elevators.
    “I’m too tense.”
“Give me what’s left of your trust.” Another press of his cock against her back drove out most thoughts of Matt. Her joints started loosening right as her feminine muscles clenched. “And you can release your tension, even if it’s for a little while.”
    “Mmmm.”
Easily sensing her shift in need, Evan wrapped his
