actually wearing stockings?” Dottie said, her voice dripping with sarcasm, which for her was the norm.
“No, just a fake spray tan. I can hardly stand the thought of wearing clothes in this heat, let alone covering my already sweaty skin with a layer of nylon.”
“You and Danny should plan to come over one day next week. I’ll cook. I haven’t seen the two of you in the same room in like, forever.”
    “Tempting.”
“Ooh, speaking of temptation, I’ve got something for you.”
    “You have something for me?”
“Actually, yes…just the thing to get you out of your slump.”
    “Huh?”
“Listen, I bought these chocolates from a friend of mine, a Chocolatier in Brooklyn. He went on and on about their effects.”
    Carly looked at her suspiciously.
“Really, I didn’t believe what he told me at first either, but these little jewels are the ‘real thing’,” her fingers bent in an air quote, “a major league aphrodisiac.”
“Dottie, you have too many friends that you are way too personal with.”
Dottie let out a loud guffaw. “True…true.”
“Chocolates…aphrodisiac? Do I even want to know about this guy?”
    “Um…probably not.”
There was a moment of silence. Carly waved her arm in the air, “Hmmm, well, then tell me about this ‘crazy’ chocolate.”
Carly watched as Dottie smiled, her eyes belied the excitement she felt.
“I’m telling you, they’re guaranteed to get you going, if you know what I mean.”
    “Aphrodisiac? For real?”
Dottie nodded her head emphatically. “Serious.”
“How do you know they work?”
    “Well, I tried them…like twice…”
“You’re kidding me. When? With who? You’re the last person I would think needed an aphrodisiac?”
“So true, but I was curious, so last night after I bought them I tried one…you know, for the sake of research.”
“I can see it now, the white coat…beaker… you can pull off the mad scientist thing. You have that ‘crazy off the wall’ look.”
“You’re really starting to crack me up here.” Dottie stood with her hands on her hips admonishing Carly. “Hey listen you, don’t be so judgmental. Damn things really do work, I was so horny I nearly killed BOB.”
    “You don’t say?”
BOB is her battery-operated-boyfriend, she used to call him Herman, but that got too weird when Dottie actually started dating a guy named Herman. Not a joke. She really went out with a Herman; nice guy, just a little too into himself for Carly’s taste, and apparently he didn’t have the ‘right stuff’ as far as Dottie’s was concerned either.
“So of course, my curiosity got the better of me,” she continued. “They were burning a hole in my purse so I ate one of the little fuckers today—totally on a whim—and I have to tell you, I’ve been so fucking horny, I’m even shocked at my behavior.”
    “Are you serious right now?”
“Don’t look at me like that. I actually wanted to do Phil from HR.”
“Ewww, that’s a little too fucked up to imagine. And Dot…TMI!”
“Don’t doubt the power of the chocolate. I’ve seriously been following him around all day, quite pathetic, even for me.” She laughed.
    “Are there drugs in them?”
“Nope, all natural. Some kind of herb from South America or some such place. He wouldn’t give away the secret…but he said they are selling like crazy!”
“I don’t know. Do you feel weird? How do you trust something like that?”
    “Trust ME.”
Carly looked at her for a few seconds.
“Okay, you talked me into it. Can I have one?”
“Take the bag. There’s only four left in the box and at this point, I literally fear for all the men on my subway ride home…besides, I can get more.”
    “You sure?”
“Yeah, BOB needs the rest anyway.”
    “I’m sure it does.”
“Why do you think I keep telling you to send Danny my way? Now him, I could be happy with.” She smiled.
“Danny…shit, I’m going to be late, gotta go. You
