youâre on one of those Disney Channel shows. You know Laura donât play that.â
Kennedi plopped down on the edge of the bed. âItâs Kendrick,â she finally admitted.
Of course it is , I wanted to say.
âWhat did Kendrick do now?â I asked. Besides bust you upside your head, I wanted to add, but didnât.
âHeâs not returning my phone calls.â
I sat down next to her. It was time we had a real heart-to-heart because her obsession with this dude was borderline scary. âKennedi, whatâs really going on? Youâve never been into a guy like this where youâre getting all worked up and upset.â
âI told you, Kendrick is different. We were meant to be together and now heâs talking about he thinks we need some space,â she spat, as she got up and started walking back and forth across the room. âUnh-unh, see heâs not about to play me like that. I gave him all of meââ
I jumped up. âWhoa, Hold on, wait a minute. What do you mean, you gave him all of you?â
âWhat do you think it means?â she snapped.
I didnât know whether to be hurt or shocked. Kennedi was the âIâm waiting till I get marriedâ queen, so the fact that sheâd chosen to lose her virginity to Kendrick was a shock within itself. But the fact that she hadnât told me about it cut me to the core.
âWow, I cannot believe that,â I said.
âCanât believe what?â
âThat you didnât tell me that,â I said, stunned.
âI was going to,â she snapped. She ran her fingers through her long curly hair like she was really agitated. âYou just donât understand. I have a lot going on.â
I stood to face her. I wanted to look her right in the eye because this had really hurt my feelings.
âYouâre right. I donât understand at all. I thought you and I were BFFs.â
She rolled her eyes. âWhatever, Maya. Youâve got a new BFF.â
âSo is that why you didnât tell me? Because Iâm friends with Sheridan?â
She let out a heavy sigh again. âLook, Maya, Iâm seriously stressed out. I donât want to fight with you. I didnât tell you because I didnât want to hear your mouth.â
âHear my mouth? What does that mean?â
âYou can be so judgmental sometimes. Like now.â She pushed past me and headed to the other side of the room.
I turned around, too. âNo, Iâm just not understanding why it is my friend is all of a sudden acting like some kind of a mad woman behind this dude.â
She spun around and I could see that she was crying. âHeâs not just any dude. Heâs my first, and as far as Iâm concerned, my last.â
âAnd what is that supposed to mean?â
âJustââshe looked aroundââcan you just drive me to his house?â
âKennedi,â I said, âIâm not about to go stalking some guy.â
âYouâre not stalking him. Iâm just trying to find him.â
âAnd if he wanted to be found heâd answer your phone calls,â I said because I knew she had called him a hundred times.
She fell down on the bed and burst into tears. âWhat am I going to do? What in the world am I going to do?â
I know I probably shouldâve walked over, hugged her, and comforted her or something, but I was too busy trying to figure out who in the world was this person lying on my bed and what in the world had she done with my friend.
Chapter 17
I could not believe I was doing this, driving around like some hood rat chick, trying to track down a man.
My BFF had clearly lost her mind.
âTurn right there,â she hurriedly said.
I side-eyed her, but turned in the direction she was pointing. I had initially refused to drive her so sheâd asked to use my ride. She was all teary eyed and worked up, and the way
