tried to ignore the jolt in his groin when he saw Natalie bent over
to pick up something off the floor. Her buttocks were soft and shapely,
displayed to best advantage by the cut of her gray skirt. She often wore
shapeless skirts and dresses, so it was a rare pleasure to see part of her body
so prominently displayed.
She stood up and started visibly when she saw him standing
there. Orion wondered if he had hidden his hunger quickly enough. Judging by
the heat suffusing her cheeks and the way she smoothed her hair, probably not.
“Did you need something, Mr. Taylor?”
He shook his head, barely tamping down the urge to tell her
explicitly what he needed. Orion reveled in her obvious nervousness. Much as it
should have shamed him, he enjoyed throwing her off balance. Any sort of
reaction that indicated she shared the attraction pleased him.
    “I…um, did you forget something?”
Without speaking, Orion turned and left the office. Part of
his rushed exit had to do with seeing the clock and realizing he was about to
be late to meet his client. The rest was in reaction to his impulse to jump on
Natalie, tear off her clothes and fuck her until they were both senseless. The
animal impulse was at odds with his city persona. While in Seattle, he conducted
himself in a manner that was strictly human. He was the consummate investor,
wine aficionado and sophisticate. It was only on Evergreen Island that he let
his wolf side take over at all, and it had been years since he’d had to
struggle to keep the two halves of his life separate. Until Natalie.

As soon as she was certain Orion had truly left, Natalie
collapsed into her leather office chair. Her heart was racing and she found it
difficult to breathe. Absently, she lifted the Childers file to fan herself. It
wasn’t at all hot in the office. The air-conditioning kept the temperature an
efficient seventy-two degrees. His expression was what had left her overheated.
She had stood up from retrieving her pen to find him staring so intently at her
that she had been flustered. Before he had been able to hide it, his face had
betrayed his desire for her. She definitely hadn’t imagined it.
Ruefully, Natalie looked at her chest. Her breasts were
large and surprisingly perky for their size, but that was her only socially
acceptable feature. She was too plump and short to be fashion-plate material.
More importantly, she liked food too much to attempt to become a “perfect” size
two. A life spent subsisting on celery sticks didn’t appeal to her.
Her hair was a boring blonde shade and she knew no man would
ever lose himself in her dull brown eyes. In short, she was average, and the
kind of men she attracted was average too. Why would a man like Orion be
interested in her?
He was certainly gorgeous enough to have any woman. Well
over six feet, he towered over most people and easily controlled any situation.
Natalie knew instinctively that he would still have the same effect had he been
a foot shorter. He was solid and commanding, with an air of dominance that came
from somewhere other than his physical height. Regular trips to the company gym
ensured he maintained a trim, muscular physique his expertly tailored suits
couldn’t disguise. His bold features and dark hair were arresting, even if they
didn’t meet the classical definition of male beauty.
Natalie had seen a number of women throw themselves at
him—some subtly and some not-so subtly—in the month she had worked for him. All
of them had been incredibly beautiful, elegant creatures who clearly had no
trouble finding desirable mates. To her knowledge, not one of them had
succeeded. He didn’t seem like Graham, who gave off a predatory air that told
her he pursued every woman who might let him into her bed. Natalie wasn’t just
a potential notch on Orion’s bedpost, so what did he want from her? Added all
together, the equation still left her puzzled as to why Orion would desire her.
    Her face grew hotter when
