A few tears built in Aspen’s eyes and threatened to tumble over her cheek. I clutched my fingers into a fist. I didn’t want to see her cry … ever.
“Be safe, Sis. I love you. And … I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said what I said about Tripp.” Aspen told London.
“Me too. It wasn’t cool of me to try and get a rise out of you by bringing up your ex,” she looked over at me. Her cheeks reddened in embarrassment.
“Please have Tripp send Oliver the specifics of your next client. You know I worry, even if you don’t think so.”
“I will.” Then the dark woman was gone and Aspen had her head in her hands.
“Hey, Darlin’, what the hell was that?”
She sighed. “It was a long time coming.”
“’Fess up? One moment we were eating supper and the next you two were fit to be tied.”
“Yeah, it’s been brewing awhile. She’s been upset with me for ignoring her calls, not being a part of her life the past few months.”
“Because of some jerk with shit for brains?”
She laughed, and it was the most precious sound. “You could say that, yes. A man did a number on me, but I’m fine.”
    “Tell me about him.”
“Hank, you don’t want to know about my ex. Really.” She looked tired and drained.
“Alright then, but one day you will talk about it. I want to know everything about you.”
Her gaze searched mine. I had no idea what was going on in that head of hers.
“For now, though, how about we watch a movie together.”
She squinted. “Like you did with the pretty nurse today?”
Looked like the green-eyed monster had ahold of my Angel. Love this side of her. “She offered to watch a movie with me because I was stuck here all day. We’d just started watching something when you came home.”
I could see the wheels turning in her head. Lying with her in a bed was exactly what I wanted to do. With a little guilt, I pressed on my bandaged shoulder and groaned.
    She laughed. “Okay, okay, fine.”
We got up from the table and I led the way, holding her hand, warm and soft in mine. I could feel her heartbeat as our palms touched. We walked past my room and entered the master. The room was classy but warm. The sleigh-style bed sat proudly in the center of the room with wooden end tables on each side. The comforter looked like a burgundy cloud. I could hardly wait to get into it and snuggle up to the woman I was quickly becoming enamored with.
There were a variety of art pieces hung strategically throughout the room. One of the pictures above the bed had textured fabric and sequins in an Indian sari-inspired design. Another picture showed a seated Buddha, hands held in a strange pose. I didn’t know anything about Indian art but the room was definitely inspired by the culture. Heavy fabrics in rich maroons and golds were placed elegantly throughout the space.
Letting go of her hand, I walked to the side of the bed and pulled off my sweats. She watched me pull back the covers and slip into the bed. I patted the other side.
She pulled at the zipper behind her head and contorted her body. I could see the dress start to loosen in front.
“That’s my side of the bed,” she said, and continued to pull at the zipper behind her. The fabric pooled and hung forward even more.
    “Not anymore.”
Her head cocked to the side as she let the blue fabric slide down her form and pool at her feet. ”We’ll see about that, Caveman.”
“Fuck!” I lost my ability to breathe. She was right out of a wet dream, standing there in a black lace bra and panties. The low lighting from behind provided an incandescent glow around her silhouette. Black stockings were held up by magic halfway between milky thighs.
I felt my heartbeat stop as she sauntered across the room and turned, her back to me providing the most delectable view of her scantily clad ass. She was beyond beautiful. Emotions mixed with lust and a little of something else I wasn’t ready to name. Then they all got together and
