it. Her Feminists friends would be appalled.
Alex opened the door for her to get into his Range Rover. Once she was inside, he closed it and walked around to the driver’s side to get into the car.
Neither of them spoke during the entire forty-five-minute drive. Both lost in their thoughts. The car had barely stopped in front of Braylee’s building before she got out and slammed the door behind her.
Her stride spoke volumes. They were purposeful, determined, and Alex thought that he’d probably made one of the biggest mistakes of his life.

Chapter 15

Braylee didn’t get much sleep after Alex dropped her off at home. She’d tossed and turned for several hours before finally getting up and doing what had always helped her deal with life’s problems…work.
She’d already been in her office for a couple of hours when Nate arrived. Her head was glued to her computer trying to make heads or tails of the information they’d received from Detective Jones. She’d taken a massive amount of notes.
Speaking to herself, “I’ll need to call Gail Hindz.” She was the best crisis manager in the business.
Nate wasn’t surprised to see Braylee in the office this early. He’d known her long enough to know she was probably trying to work something out in her mind and more than likely that something was Alexandro Manchetti. Any fool could see the chemistry between them.
Considering he wasn’t a morning person, Nate wasn’t about to go into Braylee’s office unarmed. She was probably cross as a bear. So, he went into the break room to make himself a cup of coffee and her a cup of tea.
Once he’d took a sip and had Braylee’s tea in hand, he was ready. Nate poked his head into her office, “How was your day off?”
Braylee didn’t even look up. She used the nothing to see here voice, bland…even, “Fine.”
“Well, I brought you a cup of tea.”
“Thanks, just sit it on the desk.”
He sat the cup down, but he also sat down too. “Want to talk about it?”
    “Nope.”
“Was it that good or that bad?”
“Don’t want to talk about it.”
“Interesting. Is Mr. Manchetti coming into the office with his legal team today?”
    “Not sure.”
“You were just with him yesterday, I just thought you would know.”
“Don’t want to talk about it, Nate.”
“It’s not healthy for you to do what your doing?”
Braylee finally looked up and her restless night was clearly evident. Her usual bright eyes were red and puffy. She sighed, “And what is that? Making sure we can pay the bills around here?”
“That’s always a good thing. I like being able to pay my mortgage. But, no. That’s not what I’m referring to, and you know it. You can’t keep all of your feeling bottled up the way you do. Eventually, it will come out.”
    “And…that is why I pay a shrink.”
“How’s that been working out for you? You’ve been seeing Dr. Jorgensen for several years now, and I haven’t seen a whole lot of progress given all the money you’ve spent. I’m a hell of a lot cheaper and more convenient.”
Braylee gazed deeply at Nate as if contemplating what if anything she wanted to say. She opened her mouth to speak then closed it as she rested her chin in her hand. Since there was no one else in the office all you could hear was the tap tap tap of the pen against the desk as Braylee twiddled her pen in between her fingers.
When she stopped twiddling, she spoke softly, “I’m never going to have a great love, get married and have children.”
Nate spoke slowly, “And…you figured that out yesterday?”
Braylee looked away, “I’ve known for a long time. I guess…I just…yesterday confirmed it is all.”
“I didn’t know that was something you wanted. Braylee, don’t take this the wrong way but does this have anything to do with your sister getting married?”
“If I’m honest, maybe a little. I don’t know.” She put up her hands as if surrendering. “I know you and Lisa think
