at her house.â She shrugged. âI guess now that theyâve made note of her, theyâre free agents. Not my doing. Just men going after what they want.â
âIssy?â
She patted Adamâs shoulder. âYou have to admit, the woman is a catch.â
âOf course she is. Sheâs beautiful and smart and sweet.â
âSexy, too?â Amber asked.
âSmokinâ hot.â He let out a breath. If it wasnât Amber encouraging the men, he needed to think of a way to discourage them.
âSheâs good with kids, too.â
âYou donât have to tell me.â Adam rubbed the back of his neck. âSheâs incredible with them. Understanding and genuinely caring. One day, sheâll make a terrific mother.â
Both brows up, Amber asked, âWith you as the father?â
âThatâs the plan, if I canââ
Behind him, Issy gasped.
Adam jerked around, and there she stood, Cupid cuddled in her arms, her eyes wide with astonishment.
Zoey and Garrett grinned behind her.
Damn it. Of all the ways heâd considered declaring himself, this wasnât one of them. âHey.â
She blinked those big blue eyes at him. âHey.â
Amber sighed. âI love it when a plan comes together.â She bestowed an approving smile on each of them, gathered up Garrett and Zoey, and exited the kitchen.
For once, Adam appreciated her efforts. At least now he and Issy had some privacy.
He closed the distance between them, brushed his knuckles along her jaw, and asked, âWhat do you think?â
Face going pink, she whispered, âAbout?â
âHaving babies with me. Not just yet, but someday. After weâre married, of course.â
For one heart-stopping moment, her bottom lip trembled. âI guess that depends.â After a deep breath, she asked, âDo you love me?â
âVery, very much.â
All the starch left her, and she even lightly punched him. âWhy didnât you tell me?â
âI didnât want you to think it was Amberâs idea. I know how she manipulates things.â
âShe does?â
How could Issy be unaware of that? âShe told you not to tell me how you felt, right?â
Warily, Issy nodded. âYes.â
To let her know it was okay, Adam kissed her forehead. âAmber didnât want me to get too cocky about things.â Without making an issue of it, he led her out of the kitchen and down the hall. He needed to ensure theyâd have a few minutes alone, and he wanted to hold herâwhich meant getting her to an enclosed room where she could put down Cupid. âBut after you gave me the cold shoulder so many times, there wasnât much chance of that happening.â
âI never .â
âYeah, honey, you did.â
Under her breath, she grumbled, âWell, howâs a woman to know what youâre thinkinâ?â
âUsually if I talked to a woman, sheâd chat back, flirt a little, open the door to more. But you were always all business and I guess I didnât want to get shot down.â
âI wouldnât have,â she said gently. âAnd I hesitated to be bolder with you for the same reason. Youâre Buckhornâs most wanted bachelor, and Iâm justââ
âAmazing.â Pausing in the hallway, he kissed her. âWonderful.â Another kiss. âAnd mine.â
Leaning into him, she sighed. âYes.â Then she shook her head and laughed. âYes to being yours. I donât know about the rest.â
âYou can take my word on it.â So much time theyâd wasted. Sometimes his cousin was a geniusânot that heâd ever admit it to her. âAmber also told me you were a little wild,â he teased.
â Wild? â Face hotter now, Issy didnât hesitate when he led her into an empty bedroom and closed the door. âThatâs ridiculous.â
