himself. He started with an A4 one. Miss Block had calculated correctly that if she gave him enough of them, he wouldnât worry about using them up.
Felix Pieter Misselthwaite
Age 7. This is my book. This was Dadâs new pen.
Felix P. Misselthwaite. Felix P. Misselthwaite.
Today I asked if we could have a dog. Dad said maybe. I have a kind of pet already. Snowy is my cat who lives in the garden. A sharing cat. But I donât know who feeds her. Or maybe it is a him. Also Sea Monkeys.
Miss Block gave me this book. Her name is Miranda!!! Miranda Block. Miranda Block. Mrs Cowplaincalled her that at playtime. I hope she stays at our school for ever.
I like Erica too. She is very beautiful and kind also. List of why
1. Does not wear stupid clothes.
2. Good at being very quiet in the garden.
3. Knows many insects and animals also more about plants than me. I like creatures better.
4. Brings things to do, like frisbees. Also cakes and drinks.
List of things I know about her
1. Three brothers older than me.
2. She has a sister who lives in France up a mountain with goats and a boyfriend. Also older than me.
3. Her mum has twenty-four hens.
Felix stopped writing. He wished he had some brothers or even sisters. They wouldnât be babies but at least four or five years old so that they could play and do things.
Erica had said that he could go to tea with her soon. He had never seen her house before. She had said that she would collect him from school, and that, another time, maybe in the school holidays, she would take him on a trip somewhere â maybe to a museum or an aquarium.
He wouldnât have minded if the the trip was to the house where her family lived. Sheâd said it had a river.
Chapter 10
At last it had come. Today was the day that Felix was going to Ericaâs house. He told Miss Block. He told all the children on his table at school.
âBig deal,â they said and, âWhoâs Erica? Your girlfriend?â
âNo!â said Felix, too vehemently, and they all laughed.
âFelix has got a girlfriend! Felix has got a girlfriend!â
He looked as though he might cry. Miss Block came over.
âYellow table! Get on with your work! Leave Felix alone!â She couldnât resist smoothing his tousled hair.
âFelix has got two girlfriends! Felix has got two girlfriends!â they whispered as soon as she had moved away.
Erica was waiting for him in the playground. She seemed to know just the right sort of place to stand, not too near the door, as though he were one of the little ones, but not so far away that they wouldnât have been able to spot each other the moment he came out.
âHey Felix!â she said, and gave him a quick hug, even though she didnât usually when they saw each other in the garden. âGot all your stuff?â she said. âNo lunch box?â Felixhad his anorak-in-a-bag, a navy blue one, and his school folder with a school library book and a three-week-old newsletter inside. Guy didnât know that these bags were meant to be checked for communications every day.
âI have school dinners,â said Felix.
âAre they nice?â
âSometimes. As long as it isnât fish or jelly.â
âHmm,â said Erica, âI can imagine. Especially if they were on the same day. Or even worse than fish and jelly â jellyfish.â
Felix laughed.
âI like it sometimes, but itâs a bit noisy. When I started I hardly ate anything because the smell made me feel so sick. I had to breathe through my sweatshirt all the time.â
âThat must have made eating tricky.â
âIf you are naughty, the dinner ladies stand you up, and then you donât get to eat anything anyway.â
âWell, I hope you never get standed up, I mean stood up,â said Erica.
âI only have been once. And that wasnât my fault. I got pushed and my drink went in somebodyâs
